That's why I'd like to hear from authors first, to see if they are out there and willing to let their stories go. Also, are there authors who want to take on old WIPs? I'm this way with any new features, I usually ask the chat crew copious amounts of questions before coding to make sure I'm not wasting my time.

The issue with just doing a test run is that for that to happen, I still need to code it, which takes a lot of time and effort on my part. I don't mind doing the work for features that I think will be used, but I don't really want to spend the time if no authors are actually willing to participate.

I have seen other Adopt-A-Fic boards on other genres websites, where the writers put their fiction up for adoption, for various reasons from their muse, leaving them, to their life is so hectic they can't focus on it, anymore or they simply lost interest in their own story.

You could do a test run on it and see how it works out. If it's a bust simply take it down. I have come across fics where the writer is still active readers on EF but haven't finished their stories in years and on the Spuffy Realm, too.

Is this something authors would really do? I can't imagine putting so much work into a story only to say, "I'm done. Someone else finish this." I'd like to hear from some EF authors to know their thoughts on this. Also, the authors of most older WIPs are MIA so they're not around to give permission.

Yes, Only the original writer's can place their fics up for adoption and decide the conditions of the adoption. And when it's passed on to the new 'parent' the original writer, would post who is the legit adopter is.

I would imagine it as only having stories available to adopt that we're voluntarily made available by the author themselves

I am sure there are writer's out there, who would be willing to put their own stories up for adoption, on their own.

I think I speak for all the mods here when I say there's no way I feel comfortable putting an author's fic up for adoption no matter how long it's been since they updated. Even though we host it, the fic is their property, and theirs to decide what should be done with it.

And wait a certain amount of time, for the original writer to have a chance to reclaim it or give their blessing to adopt it.

I did think of, where orphaned stories whose writers can't be found, who haven't been on EF for years. Like post, you're going to adopt the orphaned fic and post it in your summary, you plan to adopted the orphan and credit the original writer of it.

Thanks, I thought of it, too. I was afraid it might be too much to suggest it.

Valerie21601 what a fabulous idea. It might be nice to be able to recommend stories that we would especially like to see finished so new authors could see where the interest is.

for those who can't finish their story for whatever reasons. They can post the conditions of the adoption to pick out who they want to finish it. Those who adopt will post in their summary that it's adopted, acknowledges the original writers and has their blessings to do it.

I often come across great Spuffy stories that were never finished for whatever reasons like real life got to them, or their muse ran away, in one case maybe death.

Thanks Juggler! I thought summer would give me more time to write, but now that the bratlings are home 24/7 I'm busier than ever! You'd think the fridge was a vortex of evil by how hard it is for them to find the milk by themselves!

I hope a few of those challenges do get taken up. I have so many WIPS on my laptop it's obscene. I had to let go of the ones I haven't written on in the hopes of focusing myself. But if no one writes on them, I'll obsess, cause I'm wrong like that.

Tempest has put of several challenges that have such potential for rich storytelling. I hope someone responds. I do so appreciate all the writers here on EF.

@ spoikesbytch thanks for your suggestion of the Bowiebara series, but still not the story I was looking for, though I agree with you that it is an excellent series. I'd think that I'd dreamt the story but my imagination is not that good. Thanks anyway.
