"Play the canon you’re dealt” is my credo, defining ‘canon’ as everything up to the point the screen goes black in NFA. I did not read the comics, but I’ll occasionally borrow an idea from them like that it was a Buffy decoy in Rome in The Girl in Question.

Sticking to canon isn’t always easy given some of the show-running and writing missteps, particularly in later seasons, but the characterization and performances remain so strong throughout that it leaves me with a wonderful trunkful of toys to drag out and play with.

Buffy is all of 22 years old when last we see her standing at the lip of that crater, while Spike is in the terrible twos of ensoulment in AtS S5 with so much potential for character growth. IMO that affords a world of possibilities for these two that I just can’t stop pondering. :-)

I borrow an idea, maybe two, from the comics but otherwise ignore them. So no space bugs, cringeworthy flying sex or Dander (that can't possibly be their portmanteau but I don't actually care enough to check).
