As requested, we now have detailed beta profiles where betas can specify their preferences and abilities. The previous beta list has been removed, so if you want to beta, you must go fill out your new profile. To do this, go to your account info page. Under the Profile and Preferences section, click on the link for Edit Beta Profile. For your beta status, if you select 'Currently accepting new stories', then you will be added to the active beta list and your beta profile will also be viewable on your main profile page. If you select 'Not currently accepting stories', you will be marked as a beta, but your information will not appear in the active beta list and your profile will note that you are not currently active. Please fill out the information in your beta profile as completely as possible.
If you don't want to be a beta, you don't have to fill anything out. By default, members are not betas. You only need to fill out your beta profile if you want to be added to the list.
I need to thank Puddinhead for her help with this. She looked over everything for me, wrote the new tips for beta readers and authors, and is just generally wonderful. Let's all take a moment to reflect upon her awesomeness.
As always, additions to the site can sometimes be a little glitchy in the beginning. If anything looks buggy, send me a message and let me know.

Susan, your beta profile is the BEST!
I may have found a bug - the 'Your Statistics' feature under 'Account Info' now leads to an error page, at least for me. One other semi-bug: the last time I added a new story, I spent a good while freaking out because the info on the preview page kept telling me it was being added as part of a series - and not even MY series, but somebody else's. Eventually I just added story, and it does not appear to be part of a series after all. But the page TOLD me it was. I presume anybody else who notices will freak out too.
Hey, spuffy, thanks for pointing out the bad link for statistics. I've got it fixed now.
I've never seen the series issue, but I only occasionally post test stories, so it's not like I'm doing that often. If it ever happens again, take some screencaps so I can see exactly what it says/looks like.
Hi Susan,
Just piggybacking off of Spuffy Luvr's comment- when I posted it told me I was adding to as series as well, but after multiple tries, with each posting saying the same thing, I finally decided to publish anyway and see what happened. It didn't connect to a series, but it still kept telling me it was part of one. Hopefully just a glitch like you mentioned.
Sweet
Thanks for letting me know, Sweet.
Since there were 2 reports of this, (not that I didn't take yours seriously, spuffy, but 1 report is a glitch, 2 is a problem ) I looked into it and saw the series issue for myself. Once I saw it, I looked at some other sites on the same software version that we're using to see if it was just an issue here or a software bug. It turns out that it's an issue on other sites as well. I'll see what I can do to fix it, but in the meantime, just ignore it if it happens again.
You're the best Susan! Thank you for fixing all the little things and the big things too!
Sweet
Thanks, Sweet. That's, uh, sweet of you to say.
I think I got the problem figured out, and it shouldn't happen again. If it does, just let me know.
I r crash test bunny. Also, love this feature!
