Characters: Buffy, Dawn, Joyce, Spike
Summary:

In Becoming II while Buffy and Joyce are off fighting, they leave William the Bloody unattended in their living room.  Along comes a sweet little niblet curious about the newcomer and anxious about her sister and mum fighting.  When Dawn asks him why he's there, he tells her that he's off to save the world with her sister.  When she calls him a hero it does something a little bit funny to his insides.

Later in South America Dru is boinking anything with....well, just anything and wailing about the Slayer being all around Spike.  When she tells him she's got him a prezzie he thinks all is forgiven until he uncrates it and finds a sweet niblet all trussed up, starving and scared to death.  When Dawn looks at him, she sees a hero until the moment she realizes he isn't the white knight.  Dru tells him to make it hurt, make her scream and she'll forgive her black prince, but he. just. can't.

Knowing that Dru will never take him back he leaves her and begins the journey back to Sunnydale to return Dawn to her home.  In a much too long trip Spike gets an up close look at little girls who need to pee, sleep, eat and just plain get bored in the car.  Although since immaturity is what bonds those two together I can totally see him playing car games like I Spy.

When he gets her home and finds the Slayer gone he sticks around to keep an eye on the Summers women.  What happens when Buffy finally makes her way home and how would s3 change if Spike was around and friendly with Joyce and Dawn?

Summary: Written for the October 2015 Challenge Month, in response to prompts posted by Tempestt and Mia Vaan. Complete at eight chapters.
Dawn is nine and three quarters. She is resilient, strange and sharp as a tack. She's a credit to her big sis. But she's just been kidnapped by one of the most notorious vamps of all time - Drusilla. Things look bad.
Enter Spike, her very unlikely hero.
Spike's relationship with Drusilla has been on the rocks since the Acathala debacle and the morsel in the crate is her double-edged gift to him: a chance to make things right, and a chance to be really bad. Kill the girl and make it hurt. But for some reason he. just. can't.
Instead, he tosses the niblet into the trunk of his Desoto and hits the road, leaving his one hundred year relationship in tatters, and grinding his reputation into the dust.
Buckle your seat belts nice and tight. We're in for a bumpy ride.
