Bummed out and a little miffed that he's, again, the only male friend in the group; Xander devises the most perfect plan to get things back to the way they used to be.

If Xander sets Buffy up on a blind date with a total loser, knowing it'll end in nothing else but a disaster, then she'll naturally realize just how good she had it with Riley and want him back in her life! Back in all of their lives!! 

Enter bookish/nerdy William. (Author's choice of how Xander knows William). He's of course the perfect target loser for the blind date. There's no way Buffy would go for a man like him.

Except that she does. Because once she sets her eyes on Will, she falls. Hard. 

Safe to say that Xander's plan has backfired. 

Must Have: Buffy and William hitting it off right from the start
