The story must be set in season 5. It can either be before "Crush", after "Intervention" or "Crush" never happened at all. It can't take place when the Scoobies were blocking Spike out of their lives.
Either the Marvel movies are happening in the late nineties, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer is taking place today.
The gang are trying to figure out what to do about Glory. Spike realizes that they need desperate help, so he calls in someone he knew from WW2 - none other than Captain America himself. It's up to the author how they met, though one idea could be Spike teaming up with Cap because Hydra took Drusilla.
Steve should definitely call out the Scoobies on their blatant bigotry towards demons. Steve should be friendly with other benevolent demons.
Bonus points if Steve notices that Spike is in love with Buffy and tries to nudge them together: “As maybe the world’s foremost authority on waiting too long…don’t. You both deserve a win.”
Extra bonus points if Steve meets Riley and takes him down a peg.
