This chapter is set directly after ‘I Only Have Eyes for You,’ when Angel(us) takes Dru off to hunt, and Spike gets out of his wheelchair without them knowing he’s able to walk again. In this version of events, Spike also heads out (in the opposite direction) and runs into Buffy––a couple of weeks earlier than him intentionally seeking her out for the canon truce in Becoming Part Two.
Changes I’ve made to canon from next chapter on should become clear on their own.
