Written for the 12 Years 12 Seasons Challenge, Prompt 11: It was a truth universally acknowledged that when things on the Hellmouth were about to go kablooey, it more often than not was likely to be a Tuesday.
That rockin' banner is from the wonderful and talented DauntlessGrace. Woo-hoo! I was so lucky to get this one!

The wonderful artist nmcil created this amazing art for the chapter! Wow! I'm so excited to share this gorgeous banner!
I would be remiss if I didn't note that the wonderful and gracious Pencilcomet beta'ed this chapter for me when things got crazy IRL (septic system, basement, rivers of bleach). She's the reason this chapter got posted this week!
Thank you so much to the amazingly talented nmcil for this beautiful chapter banner!
This chapter is NOT, as I expected, the last chapter. This one snuck from beneath the bed or behind the garage, grabbed my ankle, and wouldn't let go until it made its way into the story. I didn't intend for Riley to show up, but apparently he'd been spying on Sunnydale, waiting to act on a stupid plan when Spike came back to town. Much gratitude to my beta Pencilcomet for doing helping me get this more somber chapter into shape and for some lovely grace notes of her own -- Thank you, sugarpie!
The final, planned chapter will arrive with much less delay. Thank you all so much for reading!
Very humble apologies for taking so long to update, and also for the way this story expanded. As Spike recedes, Buffy moved right in for her part of the story, and it can't be Spuffy without both. This chapter does not include the battle of 'God's Earthly Ambassador' against demons on the Hellmouth, but the very next one does. I will post it tomorrow.
This is where I get to thank Pencilcomet for her wonderful beta work that helped me keep the tone right when the story unexpectedly expanded toward the end; DauntlessGrace for the beautiful banner created for the 12 Years 12 Seasons Challenge; nmcil for the amazing chapter banner showing a winged Spike; Elysian Fields for putting out the challenge that made me realize I did have Spuffy stories yet to write and providing the platform to post them; the folks who leave comments, because your words are life; and the readers, who kindly stayed with the story even with a long break between updates. You all have my deepest gratitude. -- Soulburnt
