Summary: After failing to stop Buffy from turning herself into the police for a murder she didn't commit, Spike picks himself up from the alley floor and heads to Africa to get his soul. When he steps out of the cave, he's met by a delegation from the Vatican. They're not there because of his soul (which is perfectly nice and all). They're there to be a support team for his demon. Spike finds he is suddenly emitting the most wonderful scent of roses, is preceded everywhere he goes by the sweet chime of bells, and that he occasionally sprouts wings. None of that matters, though – he needs to get back to Sunnydale, preferably before Tuesday rolls around.
Written for the 12 Years 12 Seasons Challenge, Prompt 11: It was a truth universally acknowledged that when things on the Hellmouth were about to go kablooey, it more often than not was likely to be a Tuesday.

This chapter is NOT, as I expected, the last chapter. This one snuck from beneath the bed or behind the garage, grabbed my ankle, and wouldn't let go until it made its way into the story. I didn't intend for Riley to show up, but apparently he'd been spying on Sunnydale, waiting to act on a stupid plan when Spike came back to town. Much gratitude to my beta Pencilcomet for doing helping me get this more somber chapter into shape and for some lovely grace notes of her own -- Thank you, sugarpie!

Very humble apologies for taking so long to update, and also for the way this story expanded. As Spike recedes, Buffy moved right in for her part of the story, and it can't be Spuffy without both.
