This is gonna go off-canon in how Buffy treats Spike. I feel like early Season 5 Buffy saw Spike as just an annoyance/last-resort ally at best. I will say that the dream has some effect in why Buffy is acting nice to Spike, but I won't say how or why yet. For now just go with it!

It took a while for me to figure out what I wanted to do with this story. Ultimately, I wanted it to be short. But I also wanted to make sure that Buffy and Spike had time to develop a healthy relationship. So this epilogue will hopefully take care of both needs.
