Summary: Updated! In a quirky twist of fate, Buffy and Spike find themselves in quite the supernatural pickle in Sunnydale. Buffy, after an unfortunate encounter with her demon roommate, ends up losing a part of her soul – talk about a bad roommate experience! This leaves her feeling a bit vampiric, but without any of the cool perks. Just as she's figuring this out, her roommate bites the dust, making soul retrieval a no-go.
 
Meanwhile, Spike's on a treasure hunt for the Gem of Amara, dreaming of ultimate power. But, surprise! The gem's powers come with a catch. Now he's stuck in a weird limbo, not quite a full-fledged monster, but not exactly human either. It's a real identity crisis.

The pity of it was worse than any blow she had ever struck. Prideful, Spike ran a hand through his gelled hair, looking away from her. “You,” he answered, his throat thick.

 

She backstepped, allowing her features to harden. Then, Giles's low, fuming voice cut through the air between them. "You colossal fool," Giles rumbled, still holding his crossbow. 

 

Turning their attention to the Watcher, who was standing in a circle of dead roses, Spike opened his mouth to respond, but there would not be enough time. Before he could form the words, Giles fired the crossbow. The arrow swooshed through the air, landing in Spike's chest. He fell to the ground as Buffy rushed over to him, crying, “How could you?”
