Skin: drinking buddies
I started watching Buffy from day one, in 1997, as a Senior in high school. Grew up with the Scoobies (literally). See Buffy, Spike, and the rest of the gang as my family.
I nursed a healthy attraction to Angel the first time I watched seasons 1 and 2. I'll admit it.
But I absolutely fell in love with Spike the moment he walked on screen in School Hard. By the time he'd dunked his first marshmallow with Joyce in Lover's Walk, I shipped Spuffy big time.
Angel and Riley be damned...thy conqueror is Spike.
Truth time. My favorite season was 6. I loved everything about it...the intimacy between Spike and Buffy as a friendship blossomed, the heat of a burgeoning and illicit affair, the emotions that arise when there's only one other soul who understands you.
Even after hundreds of screenings, I still give Spuffy a standing ovation at the end of OMWF, wriggle with glee when they break the house, swoon with every head tilt and tongue-to-teeth moment, and tear up as Spike goes up in amulet-induced flames. And yeah, I absolutely do understand Spike's MO in Seeing Red. I will argue, discuss, debate the series, anytime, anywhere. Just don't ever dare to speak bad of my ensouled vamp with peroxide waves. I. Will. Break. You.
I live and breathe the Buffyverse. I have a zillion baby WIPs, a multi-chap 'Verse that's a little heavier into "the works," and a self-promise to keep Buffy's story alive (and keep feeding the obsession) by systematically devouring every well-written fanfic I can find.
