I keep forgetting why I never finished this fic and so I start re-reading it again. And then I get to the line,  “Daddy’ll take care of it.” coming from Spike and have the visceral response of... "And... I'm out!" and wanting to close the fic.

Luckily this time, I had it open to "read all chapters" and let's be honest I love most of Holly's work and I love the banner for this one, so this time I decided to do a word search and found that that was the last of 3 uses of the word "Daddy" in the entire fic... so I decided to let it go this time and keep reading. 

I can take the use of "Daddy" from Angel & Drusilla because she is crazy, he's her sire and for them it makes sense... but Daddy kink is NOT my thing and it is NOT part of how the Spike/Buffy vibe will ever read for me. I also prefer Spike using "pet' or 'luv/love" over the use of "baby." The first 2 seem more in character for Spike and do not hint at Daddy kink at all.

To each their own though.

Anyway, I am glad I did the word search and am going to keep on reading as the fic itself seems interesting.

Yeah, there is no 'Daddy' kink in this fic. I mean, he says it once and that's it. Which he also does at one point in the series, (to Dru, "Talk to Daddy," in a playful way) but nothing beyond that to bring kink into it. That's what he does here. And 'baby' is something he definitely called Dru more than once. I think if he were in a serious relationship, or more secure in it, he might be more liberal with its use. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Or doesn't.

Okay there seems to be a little geanealogical innacuracy here. First of all Spike said his father and sister "Victoria" died of the plague. He did not mention an older sister "Catherine" so Willow is inaccurate on that account. From Spike's thoughts it seems like Catherine is in fact his Aunt (his father's sister based on her Maiden name) in which case Spike/William would be the 1st cousin of Rupert *if* it had been Rupert's father who married Catherine. But since it is Rupert's Great(1) Great(2) Great(3) Grand(4)father their actual relationship is 1st cousins 4 times removed.

I had a double 2nd cousin once removed so this is always fun stuff for me to figure out. (A pair of brothers married a pair of sisters - one of the couples was my great grandparents the other couple was his grandparents - double because it was sibling bonded through both the husband and the wife on each side) In other words : parents related - 1st cousins, grandparents related - 2nd cousins, grandparents related to great grandparents - one generation removed from 2nd cousins (because the remove is one sided that is why it doesn't change the type of cousin but just puts in the relationship where the cousins were last in parallel generations but once removed.)

I'm pretty sure no one else except me cares about all this but I thought you might possibly find it interesting. Oh and I am enjoying the story so  Thank you.

I really enjoyed that you took the time to work through it all.  I am going to have to go back and check over my notes on the first story and the sequel that is currently still a WIP.  I like to keep things pretty straight when it comes to genealogy and such.

I think part of the confusion comes in with his father and Victoria died of the plague.  Catherine would have been an older sister, no longer in the household .. probably married already ... where GIles' line came from.  The confusion is probably in that I only mentioned those who died and not any who might have lived.  You have me quite curious now to go back over it and see what I meant.  {grins}

Oh and FYI ... I also had a brother sister marry a sister brother on one side of my family.  It is kind of weird having someone be a 3rd and a 4th cousin to me at the same time. I love genealogy.  LOL

When I mentioned that it seems to be his Aunt not his sister based on Spike's thoughts, I was referring to this section from chapter 12 :

*"Stupid git." Spike rolled his eyes. "I wouldn't want you to. Sounds bloody ridiculous." Although a part of him enjoyed the fact that he was someone's uncle now. He wasn't going to admit that to Giles. He always assumed his family line died when he was turned. He'd forgotten about his Aunt Catherine.*

if you want it to be his sister, you may want to change that part from "Aunt Catherine" to "older sister Catherine." that would match up with your thoughts then.

And yeah... genealogy is like a fun jigsaw puzzle of people.

I gotta say I am kind of uncomfortable with the idea of Spike deciding to continue having sex with Harmony even though he is coming from a time when he was in love with Buffy. I mean I kind of look at the Anya hook up as less about sex and more about grieving the loss of important relationships together after having gotten drunk. Relationships that were ended by the other party not by them. Him hooking up with Harmony, especially with his soul just seems wrong and not very William-like (soul-having). Especially when he has this second chance. If he ever explains the circumstances to Buffy in the future, how do you think she would see his decision to continue to hook-up with Harmony even though he supposedly loved Buffy. I know I would have been pissed and/or had serious doubts that he really even knew what love is or really loved me. 

Yeah... it pretty much bothered me almost as much as his attempt to hook-up with Harmony regardless of how she felt after he became corporeal on Angel. Given he is supposed to have gotten the soul so that he is not the type of vampire who would do sex regardless of dubious interest/consent because of his love for Buffy, these really aren't understandable to me. Just sayin'. Now I'm going to go back to the beginning of this chapter and finish it.

I know it won't help story Spike but I've read that in quite a few studies it shows that aspirin therapy can actually help lower chance of brain aneurysms due to it's anti-inflammatory effect on the thinned artery wall. So while Coumadin might have been bad, the fact that Joyce switched to aspirin meant her medication was actually likely more helpful towards prevention though more so in men for some reason. It would have been potentially damaging in the event of a re-rupture of a previously ruptured aneurysm, but since this was the first time, I think Spike is off the hook, though he'll never know it.

About Doc though, after all that with Joyce not going well (and Doc having come back from a death blow previously) I would have thought that Spike would have gone over the top thorough about disposing of Doc's body... I mean full on Supernatural.. behead, cut up the body, salt and burn the body (ALL OF IT, not just the head) and smash any bones left (ala The Master) that didn't burn to ash.

"he started a fire in the fireplace and threw the head in. He waited until he saw it start to burn," seems kinda half-assed. I started to burn but he didn't even wait around to make sure it burned and he did it in a fireplace without even any accelerant?

It seems tame and lame for the strength of his emotional grief, anger and guilt.

Still this story is an interesting one so far... back into the breach I go.

Hmmm... good thing Doc's dead.... "Unless his headless body can stand up and pull ‘is head out of a bleedin' fire, my guess is that he's dead."  Yeah... Spike didn't need to make sure the head and body were completely burned or grab those scrolls or anything. It's ALL good.

Frustrating... but a really good story. Giles probably frustrated me the most. He had to spend tons of time trying to figure out how to NOT kill Ben because he was an innocent but killing innocent Dawn was a quick no brainer in the event of... 

Did Spike even tell Giles that he ended up killing Ben anyway after Buffy beatdown Glory? Probably wouldn't have made a difference since he didn't totally trust Spike.
