“Furthermore, we have not even to risk the adventure alone; for the heroes of all time have gone before us, the labyrinth is fully known; we have only to follow the thread of the hero-path. And where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence; where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world.” -Joseph Campbell

I developed a potentially unhealthy obsession with fanfic a few years ago, and I have been storming through it. It started with a Vampire Diaries (TV not books) obsession that encouraged me to watch BtVS on Netflix, imagine the mindgasm I had when I discovered over a decade of fanfic!

I wrote prose and poetry when I was still in school, but never developed the skills for storytelling...

I guess I kinda jumped the gun on posting my stories. They will be completed, but I realized I can't handle the non-existant pressure of posting as I write. As soon as everything is near complete I'll start updating again!

Summary:

Spike goes through the broken back/Drusilla leaving him bit in a different way - any way other than Buffy causing it.  Maybe the mob in Prague got him injured? OR Dru abandons him because he got chipped early?  Or both!

Anyway, he comes in around the time of School Hard to get revenge on Drusilla, who he heard was coming to the Hellmouth to get back with Angel.  Angel turns into Angelus (could be by Dru or the canon way with Buffy.)  Either way, Spike & Buffy team up to take them down and Spuffy goodness happens.

I want Spike to already be close to the side of good, having decided that the way he was "raised" by Angelus/Darla/Dru was horrible and they manipulated him into becoming the monster he was.  Maybe Dru used her thrall on him in addition to Angelus torturing him into being a "better demon."  Since his break with Dru he is now free to live life how he wants.  If he is NOT chipped, maybe he feeds on rapists/murderers/etc.  The way he acts without a soul makes Buffy & Co. question the value of the soul and what it really means.  Have the Scoobies explore and question how Spike is sort of amoral but chooses to try to do good because it feels good.  Let's take a look at the nature/nurture thing and also if how one acts is a better indicator of their "goodness" than having a soul/being a demon.

My one absolute rule is that Buffy cannot be cruel to Spike.  Snarkiness is fine, though.  It is Spuffy, after all.  :)

Summary:

COMICS SPOILERS OUT THE WAZOO - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

It's BtVS vs AtS in an epic showdown!

In the Angel: After the Fall comics, Wolfram & Hart say *souled*Angel is going to Shanshu because of his role in the apocalypse - fighting for evil.  I can totally believe this based on, well, pretty much everything Angel has done in the comics (*cough*Twilight*cough*)

The challenge is this - right before the end of the final war of the End Times apocalypse that souled Angel is winning for the bad guys, a group of fighters goes back in time to do one thing - kill Angel.

Must Haves:

Buffy, Spike & Willow go back in time.  Your choice on whether this means 2 Buffys, Spikes, and Willows, or if they "replace" their past selves.

Can send additional characters back in time if you want.

Future Xander & Giles have been killed in the war, therefore cannot be sent back.

Buffy & Spike in an established relationship.

Faith from the past takes Angel's side on the basis that he can't be punished for what he hasn't done yet. Future Faith was fighting for the good guys, though.

Most of Angel's "Fang Gang" sticks by his side (at least for a while) - he's gotta have a decent fighting force if we're gonna have a showdown, right?

Angel dies.  I'd prefer if you didn't have him "fall on his own sword," but it's your call.  Bonus points if Spike kills him.

EDIT:  Just realized Angel could possibly get W&H on his side, so his friends sticking by him might not be necessary. Don't be turned off by rules.  I'm easy and not afraid to admit it. ;)

The main sticking points for the challenge are the premise (Future evil!Angel, desparate time-traveling Scoobs trying to prevent apocalypse,) B/S established relationship, Faith on Angel's side (at least at first), no time traveling Giles or Xander. Dead Angel.

EDIT 2:  PM me if you want to try it but haven't read the comics.  Happy to help with particulars.

A little bit of dialogue that's been lurking in my scraps folder, I doubt I'll ever turn it into anything more.  Feel free to use some or all of it!

I never thought the explanation for why only Spike or Angel could wear the amulet was very clear.  What does "more than human" mean, really?  Let's put that amulet on someone that's not a vampire and have it work!

Angel:  "It's meant to be worn by a champion for good, someone more than human, but with a soul."

Buffy:  "So, it's between me, you, Spike, or Faith.  Maybe Anya… I was never real clear on that."

Angel:  "Well, champion implies male…but…  Wait, did you say Spike?"

Buffy:  "Yes, Spike.  He's been on our side for a while.  And he's got a soul now. And since when can women not be champions? Do you realize how sexist that sounds?"
