For those wondering whether Acapulco is a safe vacation destination for Buffy, keep in mind that back in the 1990s, it was still a very popular tourist destination, as well as a destination for spring break. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that the Mexican Drug War as well as the 2009 swine flu pandemic resulted in decreased tourism and an increase in gang violence. So, it’s conceivable that Buffy could be vacationing there in the summer of 1999, though Hank is a thoughtless and irresponsible parent to just leave her there, especially because he doesn’t know she is the Slayer.
