Suitably elegant and graceful. Buffy's surprise over alcoholic cider is one I've had myself, and the descriptions of clothing are very nicely done as well, especially the moments where Buffy tries to move in it. I quite liked the moments with Giles and Willow, as well as Dawn, and I loved Buffy's use of being from California as an excuse for her Slayer strength. Gentle and kind, I'd love to read more fics like this.[Report This]
Rereading this after reading another story that was inspired by this one (and of course, I've forgotten what the name of that story was....I read too much spuffy). Anyway. This is a beautifully written short story. The William she conjures will break your heart with his innocence and decency and bravery. Buffy's Christmas wish for William just wrecked me, because we know what is coming for him.[Report This]
I totally read this story whenever I need a little sweet pick me up, and I absolutely adore it. I love sweet William with his little bits of Spike shining through, and Buffy's brief moment to just be a girl with him. Sometimes, I think, it's these little glimpses that give us the perfect lens into what makes their relationship tick underneath whatever wrappings their wearing. Thanks for sharing.[Report This]
This was very sweet and then it become terribly, terribly touching and I'm having a little teary moment. Beautifully done. Of course, now I really want a sequel where contemporary Buffy gets Spike back with this little interlude in her memory, and where Spike had a dream about a beautiful girl telling him redemption was always possible... if you ever feel so moved (I can but ask, right?)
Truly, this was really lovely[Report This]
"No, don't be sorry. I'd be really annoyed if you'd let me fall on my ... bustle."
quite save there, Buffster Also laughed quite a lot at her telling one of William's detractors he could go all night. That'd definitely earn him some street cred!
The whole cider thing is confusing on this side of the pond, too - it was only recently I discovered it's only hard cider in the US that's alcoholic. Explains a lot about adults giving children cider on various TV programmes
"His kiss was gentle, tentative and heart-breakingly sincere."
as I clicked 'submit, on this review, I had a sudden incredibly vivid image of baby!William looking at Buffy with the kind of awe she got from Spike sometimes, perhaps particularly souled!Spike, and it made it even sweeter. Ahhh you're making me want to wrap them both up in cotton wool and stick them in my pocket. (Together, obviously. And a very well padded pocket so I didn't hear anything disturbing )[Report This]
This is such a charming story. I love how you've written it; your writing style is warm and cozy and inviting, just like this story, and your lovely story-telling really drew me. I loved spending Christmas with Buffy and William in 1800's England. You did a wonderful job!
I know this is a holiday story I will look to visit again every Christmas.[Report This]
