Thanks for writing a great story and I liked how you wrote Buffy and Spike reuniting with a passionate kiss.

she said to him, quietly, as if it had been no time at all, “Yeah, I really do.”

Lovely, quiet ending after all the struggles they have both been through. You pace your writing beautifully, from gentle and slow to intense, driving speed. Well done.

This is so beautifully written. You captured their longing and frustration perfectly. I'm glad they made it back to each other and at the place that holds so much significance for them both.

Author's Response on July 12, 2021 03:45pm

Thank you kindly! I didn't realise that I had such a narrative kink for separating these two and frustrating them getting back together, but apparently I do...!

Wow! That was intense! I can relate to many of their feelings. BTDT! And that time apart, searching, for someone, somewhere, something, searching your desires, beliefs, principles, and more... this time allows for growth, maturity, surity... sure that one truly wants the object of such a quest. That one is willing to do what it takes, to compromise fairly.

I enjoyed their journey, through  the Wheel of their Year. It was almost frustrating to see how close the came to each other, so many times, yet not enough, until that last moment. That final bit of time when, had they both not been so focused upon each other they might've missed each other entirely, for the final time. Like most of their relationship, they were separated by a yawning chasm, and, so appropriately that it was the Sunnydale Crater! So close,, but for it between them!

But that doesn't  really count, does it? They've found each other herein.

Loved it!

Author's Response on June 08, 2021 06:35pm

Thank you so much for reading and commenting! It was frustrating, right? I did have another 'near miss' plotted but I thought it might be one too many!

What a wonderful comment, thank you so much! It did feel happy, right? I always want to put so much PLOT and journey into my stories, it felt right this time just to have them heading straight for one another... although maybe taking the long way round a bit!

Nice reunion story, nice details. I loved the idea of them searching the world for each other and always just missing running into each other.

Author's Response on June 08, 2021 06:40pm

I had this idea of them both being in the same bar and not noticing one another, but I feel like there's no way that would happen! So I made it more complicated, hahaharrrr... Glad you enjoyed, and thank you so much for commenting!

I like the way this story is written, there is a special kind of feeling in it. Buffy and Spike, they are both looking for each other and is following different leads. Spike even sought out some version of the Fates.

This story had elements of classic mythology in how it felt. It felt so very fitting that they would meet again at the Sunnydale crater, it was an end and now it's a beginning.

Author's Response on June 08, 2021 06:42pm

Gone full circle, hey? Thanks so much for the comment!

Too bad they didn't look through the fallen to find Spike.

these past five years, what she felt and what she had felt and what she should feel, all snarled up together. This is an excellent description of Buffy's tangled Angel feelings. She never took the time to process them.

His love, his pride, his identity, his family – everything he’d ever had had been stripped away, one after another Just like Buffy, loss after loss... abandonment issues among other things. And there is the death wish too. was that the reward for a soul? To fight until you’d lost everything, and keep fighting even then? He might also think it part of an earned punishment for his years of evil too.

The three women with the threads make me immediately think of the Fates. Aaaaand I think I am right.

Interesting that both of them are seeking answers at the same time.

She didn’t want it to be Angel. Well now. That's promising. I'm glad Giles is helping Buffy in her quest. It must mean he's not averse to her desires to find him.

He recognised The Clash, echoing down the opposite tunnel. London Calling... SOOOOO close yet far.

So many near misses

There were two things he knew about himself after all these years; he wasn’t made to be alone, and that he’d crawl over fucking broken glass for love. He’d keep looking til he was dust. Indeed, yes. That's one reason the Powers know how to play him for that matter.

One more thing they had in common, though – they’d both died twice now, and the second time been dragged back to this endless, thankless work. They had so very much in common but this was the topper. Just like Buffy after her resurrection, Spike was filled with his own insecurities, depression, confusion and so on that (with some encouragement from Angel) kept him from reaching out to Buffy too. Similar to how Buffy was not able to let herself connect.

it felt like the grey world had burst into Technicolour all of a sudden,  Lovely phrasing there.

Beautiful reunion. Love that it was at the remains of Sunnydale and Buffy's words were perfect. So much time had passed yet with her words it was as if no time had passed at all. The in-between merely parenthetical.

I can imagine them both groaning, weeping, and laughing at how often they came close to finding one another prior to finally managing it.

Lovely story. Really enjoyed reading this.

Kathleen

Wow, thank you as always for your kind and detailed comment, Kathleen! You're right, I'd love to hear the conversation that came after this, where they are both like 'you were there too? Oh jeez...'

This is Just Beautiful.

Wonderful language and imagery. I love the parallels between their experiences, and while I usually hate near misses, these were perfect. So close, and yet not close enough til the year was up, and then Buffy finally gave the perfect answer.

Just. Beautiful.

What a lovely story.  I really like the little moments in time and how they give us just a taste of life for Buffy and Spike and trust us to imagine the rest.  Thanks for writing and sharing this story.

Author's Response on June 08, 2021 06:46pm

Well thank you too for reading it! I'm a sucker for vignettes and fill-in-the-gaps storytelling. I didn't mean to do two in a row, but what's coming next/right now is different!
