Spike is going to be a real strong support to Buffy especially once the truth comes out and she has to grapple with far more than just the baby issue.
That mind rape was terrible on Angel's part and he gave her no time to agree or disagree. Once more her choices were taken from her. I hope he isn't allowed a part in the life of the baby! He doesn't deserve it but would be like a dog with a bone if he knew.
so great to see Buffy take a stand against Willow and Xander. Giles tries, but I wonder how much he bows under the pressure of those two to control Buffy to their way of thinking. Love seeing Buffy written strong against those two. Waiting for next chapter. Thank you.
Buffy needed to take the reins of her own life. She would never find happiness under the yoke of her friends' opinions. As for Giles, he does love her, though he can be a bit stiff-necked and rigid with his Watcher background. Time will tell if he bends a little.
Oh Buffy, I can see why she'd wish for mystical, hellmouthy cancer ...
Trust spike to drag Buffy out of denial ...
And already spike is showing his caring, and knowing what she needs, colors. Happy sigh ...
Glad you like my Spuffy interaction. More to come, of course, as they get deeper into things.
Hmmmm willow insisting that pregnancy may be a possibility for buffy's illness ... Never thought it could be looked as negative, until here. It's an interesting interpretation : " (willow) clearly not loving having her theory shot down" ..
And it was almost comical spike's reaction to him falling for Buffy. At least he recognizes he'll need to be smart about wooing the volatile Slayer ... Can't wait for the fireworks ... And I don't just mean between them ...
Willow's control issues - grr argh!
Spike never did the 'right' thing, but he always did the William/Spike hybrid thing. After all, 'what we are informs who we become.' Darla had the right of that all along.
Loved spike's reaction to heaving directly after the spell broke.
And I never got how willow's actions were swallowed by her guilt cookies. (Pardon the pun...). Why didn't Giles address this? If no one else he should have seen the signs. But I guess that was too much to ask ..
So looking forward to more as Buffy realizes what's wrong and angel's decisions...
While it wasn't Giles' responsibility to look after the teens, if they were gonna hang around Buffy no matter what, then as an adult he should have at least advised them to learn self defense, or even field care for injuries. But no, the man was blind to it all.
Buffy will get it all together... eventually.
I still get a kick out of riley's reaction to all this. At this time he wasn't bad ... But later is a totally different story.
Enjoying the replay of 'Somrthing Blue'. One of my favorites ...
I have shipped Spuffy ever since this episode first aired. It was full of potential (no pun intended). I have never liked Riley. I always felt he was way darker than Joss envisioned him, especially if he could condone the vivisection done to non-human beings, that he saw as 'lesser'.
I get that Willow's going through something but she's forgetting not everything is about her. And I totally see her issue isn't magic perse, it's control, and I think we all here at EF know this.
And I don't think she realized how insulting she was to everyone, either.
And it's getting good since we know our beloved spike is in the equation, and will no doubt surprise them all.
Enjoying this immensely!!
That was the thing that irked me in canon... Willow was never addicted to the magicks, but she felt it imperative that everyone's lives were her business, and if not, it was her right to meddle in them.
Spike and Buffy... even as enemies... made the best couple, ever! As friends, allies and lovers? It gets even better. Welcome aboard the ship!
I just wanted to drop a quick note to tell you that I am enjoying this story very much. I really like the concept of the aftermath of IWRY but it being a spuffy story.
Thanks, hon. Glad you're enjoying. Any Buffy/Angel interaction is a challenge to turn into a Spike/Buffy story, IMO.
I hope Buffy tells Riley she's not interested.
The Xander and Spike scene is one of my favorites, it's so fun to watch. 💚
You would think her puking would be enough, yeah. **snorts** Dumb ass! Glad you enjoyed the read.
It is good to see Buffy and Spike talk.
Buffy is showing no interest whatsoever but Riley is apparently not one to give up.
Soon time for the Gentlemen, they really were some creepy enemy. The later part of the chapter held several amusing parts.
I never liked Riley. I could always see more darkness in him than Joss envisioned.
The Gentlemen were way eerie. Brilliantly conceived. I'll be glad to see the other side of them.
Good description on how Buffy is feeling, how nervous this makes her. Joyce is being good and supportive. This is one thing she can help with. The pregnancy is a mystery but a pregnant daughter is still a "normal" thing, something a mother can help with and there hasn't been many things Joyce could help Buffy with before. It was a nice little scene with Buffy asking the baby "who are you"
Time to tell her friends. The dynamic has changed Buffy is pregnant and that means that she must be the adult. We can see that she has a lot of pent up resentment for her friends being controlling. She is letting that out now but it is also to show them that the old dynamic must be over, this will change things for all of them.
Pregnancy is definitely something Joyce can understand, which makes it easier to help her daughter as things progress. Buffy is made of sterner stuff than she usually shows her friends. It's about time they learn that she has agency in her own life and doesn't need or want them to dictate to her any longer.
I really like how supportive Joyce is though it's unclear how Buffy got pregnant.
“And you don’t? Tell me you’re still not trying to get into my ‘good graces’. Well, at least before those graces were certifiably pregnant.”
Buffy is right about Xander having still some kind of crush on her. Personally I think that he never got over the fact the she never showed any interest in him as a man. And he can be such a pain in the arse...
I really enjoy reading this story. I'm looking forward to finding out where you'll taking this from here
How Buffy got pregnant is less important to the fact that she is, indeed, pregnant. Joyce now gets that. Xander, on the other hand, never seems to get it through his thick skull that Buffy never had, and never will have interest in his human self.
I'm glad you're enjoying, and am looking forward to having you along for the rest of the ride, wherever we all end up.
I am delighted that Joyce is being so supportive. She's being a trooper and just what Buffy needs.
“How’d you like your every move, your every thought. Your Every. Single. Choice – questioned?” YES *loud cheering*. These are her friends. PERIOD. She is letting them in on her news not looking for a democratic vote. Willow's comments were out of line and Xander also taking her to task as well. Buffy does not OWE either of them a thing. Not even her company much less every single intimate detail of her life. Time to be in their proper place as friends.
“What the hell is the Bleached Menace doing shoving his nose into Buffy’s mysterious sex buddies,” Oh please just smack him to shut him up! He's insulting both Buffy and Spike here AND assuming some sort of position that implies he has rights to demand an explanation.
Good for her. She's going to be a parent and that means assuming the adult role. Willow and Xander aren't her parents. They can suck it up and be supportive friends or move on. Giles will deal and if he's smart he'll follow Joyce's example while doing it.
With her mother (and Spike) on her side, Buffy will gain strength and confidence in herself and do what's best for both her and the baby, whether it pleases anyone else or not.
Xander and Willow's opinions, once aired, should be thrown out with the rest of the garbage. Giles is another issue, being an adult Buffy trusted, but as we all learn when we grow up... even adults can fail in our eyes.
Glad you're still enjoying!
About damn time she told off those 'well meaning' but wholely annoying gobshites.
Buffy is definitely not the wimp she comes across as sometimes. She's coming into herself, now she has another life closely under her responsibility umbrella.
It’s nice to see Giles and Spike working together and both on Buffy’s side.
Outside of the living/undead dynamic, they have more in common than not. And both of them have Buffy's best interests at heart (at least now).
It's good Spike is there for her, she needed his support. Also glad she told him he helps her feel calm.
"With what? My daughter could be pregnant with a what?”. Maybe I shouldn't have, but that made me giggle. 💚
Buffy and Spike are more than good for each other, if they take the time to realize it.
As for the giggling, I'm pleased. Every now and again I try to throw a little humor in. This was definitely intentional.
Aw, I’m all melty. Thanks for that. I clicked on a random Spike story on AO3 earlier that had me in tears, so I really needed this.
I'm glad it gave you some happy feels when you needed it. Reading can be an emotional workout, for sure.
I can't wait until they figure out the who and how. It's going to be a real wake-up call about Angel! Buffy will likely see the baby as a blessing being the child with Angel that she never thought could happen. I doubt he'll be as delighted though.
I'm glad she has chosen to let Spike be her support system. I'll be he will find a good and knowledgable doctor to help with that end of things (would be great if she got one that could counsel her too cause she's a big mess and it'll be worse).
Eventually everyone will be in the know. Right now, Angel's viewpoint is kicking my ass. I wouldn't mind some help with it. If only I could avoid it totally, but alas and alack, there's no way in hell.
The further I get into the story, the more the ending wants to change. I hope everyone will be accepting of what I choose. Glad you're still enjoying.
The only thing I think I can be sure of is that Angel will say/react in any way to save his reputation. He won't want to admit paternity because that would admit the day happened and he had it turned back. Then he'll likely want to instill doubt about him being the daddy. I just can't see him acting as he should. He's always too interested in making excuses for himself. Maybe blame the Oracles for the pregnancy, not his, but mystical that sort of thing?????
Well I can't blame Joyce for jumping to conclusions when Buffy is saying that she is pregnant and not knows who the father is. She did manage to snap out of it after seeing Spike comforting Buffy. That made her enter comforting mother mood. Naturally she would bring up some options for Buffy.
I must say that Buffy's way of breaking the news to Giles was almost evil in an amusing way. Now they have to figure out what Buffy is pregnant with and then how and with whom.
Joyce has a habit of letting her mouth get ahead of her on occasion. Eventually the love for her daughter gets her back on track.
Glad you enjoyed Buffy's little adventure with couch pillow. I thought a small laugh would help lighten the mood.
Spike will be the one to figure out the who at least. I can't wait for Buffy to find out what her precious honey did to her! He'll try to deny it no doubt never thinking she might have been left pregnant (he'll blame someone or something else).
I'm glad that she and Spike finally broke the silence of embarrassment from the spell. She'll need him in her corner and that nose of his.
Have a feeling he'll be more angry than even Buffy over what's been done to her memories and otherwise.
I can see why she'd be reluctant to end the pregnancy. She is surrounded by death and never expected to have a child. Makes sense to me.
Buffy will definitely find out, and I don't see her being happy about it.
It's not that I find anything wrong with having an abortion, but you're right about her reasons for not ending the pregnancy, especially when she finds out whether it's human or demon.
Spike never does anything half-arsed, for sure - and he'll be all over the fucked up situation Angel created. Glad you're still with me.
