That was neat! Buffy has always driven me crazy with her boy problems. Having a string of bad bfs doesn't make you undateable. Nkt everything in your life has to be heavy, slayer, end of the world stuff. Funny that that girl was just a friend. Spike was on it this chapter! Would not let her stay in her self doubt and brought her into a whole new sexy world. Fun and to read. Thank you for writing and sharing with us![Report This]
OH SNAP! Not at all how I pictured everything on the folding. The Betrayal! The intrigue! Buffy has been hot for Spike this whole freaking time. I feel like everything is happening so quickly, my brain has to run to keep up. The sound of by Spike gave Buffy are caring too much, her actually trying to do something about it, so much cuteness. And then the Kiss! I had not expected that at all! It came about the best way to, Spike wanting to just die because he couldn't be a real vampire anymore and they were destroying the only people who could take it out of him. Buffy could not think of any other way to shut him up or to stop him from doing it himself, Instinct just took over, she did what she's been thinking about doing for so long. And Spike! With the foresight to make sure he was out of there before Giles came out. How he just disappeared into the night, leaving a well smooched and dazed Buffy in his wake. Too funny![Report This]
Poor girl really hasn't ever had a good sexual experience. This chapter was long and intense! So much happened. I like the way you set up this weird scenario. How Buffy is jealous from the get go but does nkt see it. How weird Willow was acting in the very beginning, I thought she was Spike's secret girlfriend![Report This]
Uh-oh. Buffy has gotten herself into a right mess, hasn't she?
I'm assuming the Riley thing can't go on much longer. It's torture for everyone.
And speaking of torture... *shudders* I really REALLY hate the Initiative.
What the fuck have empath demons ever done to anybody?![Report This]
That was the best and smoothest take down of the Initiative and break up of Buffy and Riley that I’ve read. So fast and few bumps! Love that Riley thought about Buffy’s proposal that they break up and decided she was right.
And ohhhh, the Spuffy was lovely! They just can’t help themselves, can they? Lol I’m glad Spike never really had a girlfriend and when he comments that she likes him, he seems so surprised.
Lovely tie to Something Blue and where Buffy finally gets the attraction to Spike. I’m so curious how the Scoobies will take them being together! ETA: Buffy talking about never having what Spuffy had in Something Blue was heartbreaking. I love that Spike proved her wrong!
I also am intrigued about whether he got the chip out or not. I’m assuming no... and liked your explanation of why he can hurt Buffy.
Wonderful story! Loved it! It’s been such good company on my flights...[Report This]
Well well well, that was an interesting turn of events! Like the shift you made with Riley. You did a great job of making him sympathetic and it really fits with my head canon of Riley. I know I’m soft on him. I’m glad they’re helping him see how bad the Initiative is.
I’m so curious about the ex-girlfriend. Did she sense how much chemistry is between Buffy and Spike and break up with him? And I’m assuming she wasn’t one of the murdered ones. So sad!
You also did such a wonderful job with Buffy’s progression toward Spike rather than away from them. Nice push pull within each of them as they both wrangle with the attraction to each other. And oh man, what is he thinking as he stalks away?
One of my fave parts is Buffy assessing how attractive Spike is! Lol
Still loving the present tense!
You did a nice job of Xander defending Spike to Riley. Nice opposite approach! And an intriguing change of pace!
Can’t wait to read the last part on the plane![Report This]
Whoa...the ending!! I did not see that coming! lol I am now so curious what Buffy is thinking in the aftermath. She's the queen of avoidance, and I can totally believe it took her five days to run across Spike again...whether she consciously avoided him or not.
You did a lovely job of characterization throughout the first chapter; everyone felt just right from Willow hiding that Tara is in her life to Xander and Anya and Giles. I loved the conversation between Buffy and Giles about it not being her right really to know about whom Spike is dating.
I also like your Buffy/Riley scenes and how you bumped up the conflict to sooner to lead to their inevitable break-up.
I dislike Leda a lot...but I think it's on purpose (in a Sam kinda way). Ha. It's very interesting that she's an empath demon though and that she still likes Spike, which is intriguing because it means she probably knows he's a good guy underneath his big bad front. I wonder if she actually knew Buffy was watching during sex, but maybe her empath stuff turns off when she is in the throes of ecstasy, which makes total sense with Spike. And is he dating multiple women? I have so many questions! Ahhh!
I love the present tense...so much!
I'm so excited to see where this goes next!
(This is SO weird to be writing while I'm sitting on the bed with you, but it is also delightful to be sitting with you.)[Report This]
Oh wow this was so very hot. The UST you built up got a great payoff in the last chapter here.
Riley is a jerk a but Buffy honestly did try. When you force it there is something not right.
I love her jealousy that she denied and denied until finally she couldn't any longer. Spike proving her wrong about her flaws was the perfect reason to finally have that dam break.
I laughed out loud in a literal sense with “It was waving at me, Spike. I had to say hello.” Brilliant line there.
The whole story was a pure delight.
I loved this. No Adam is a big plus in my opinion.
Buffy seeing Spike have Sex with his girlfriend and having fantasies about it
Sex with cornfed Riley is so boring Buffy things she is wrong, Sex with Sike proves otherwise
Hope for a sequel[Report This]
Love, love, love! Funny how so many feelings can come out when one is jealous - and when it's Buffy who is jealous, those feelings are bound to be extreme! This was just a real pleasure to read with a great journey and a very satisfying ending. Thank you![Report This]
Riley’s kiss is soft and lovely, and she pours herself into it. Denial, Party of one. I wonder how long Buffy is going to cling to 'normal' under these altered circumstances?
the guy who’s too sweet to realize he’s half a step from being a Manchurian Candidate This seriously might be the BEST description of Riley that I have ever seen anywhere. It fits him perfectly.
“I want to keep trying. And if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. How does that sound?"...Alright. Well crap. I really, really was hoping for Buffy to stick to her guns here, but I am not surprised that she didn't. For all her strength as the Slayer, Buffy is kind of a push-over when it comes to interpersonal relations. That happens when you are trying to be all things to all people...
Buffy swiftly brings down her fist and crushes the battery into pieces. This was such a satisfying, appropriate end to the Initiative! I love that the onus of evil stayed where it belonged, on Maggie Walsh instead of the focus shifting to Adam. This was mankinds doing, not demon work. I'm glad that you emphasized that.
What about Willy’s? You wanna grab a drink to go? I love what you are doing here. Slowly, day by day, you are letting them become real friends. And it is not one-sided, Buffy is opening herself up and trying to. The attraction is there, but you are not letting this be the driving factor. By the time you bring them together you have given them a foundation to build on.
We’ll talk more tomorrow…but this is it for me. Well drats! This was both incredibly well written and totally accurate in regards to where Buffy is emotionally, but I hate that Riley has been given the break-up power. Especially since Buffy is the one that has grown in maturity by leaps and bounds since meeting him.
Heard an argument. Thought I’d come and see you. Awww... How can Buffy possibly believe she is alone? I mean really, this guy....And Hooray! for Spike deciding to take matters in his own hands and SHOW Buffy that she is most emphatically not broken. I love how free and easy they were with each other. This scene was well worth the wait!
I know my grandsire in’t the best tumble in the hay Let's not contemplate exactly how well he knows this...
Spike exhales loudly. He turns his head to face Buffy, a lopsided grin on his face. You like me. I love this. I love how it is not a question this time. How he can say it with confidence and joy and have that same set of emotions reflected back at him.
Boy, was this going to be fun explaining to her friends. What a perfect ending! Together and unafraid, with Buffy actually looking forward to the future. In some ways loved? Pretty sure it's more than some at this point, from both directions.
This was such a fun read! I love your writing, especially how much attention you pay to detail and to making sure that everyone feels pretty much in character, while at the same time allowing and encouraging situational growth. I'm happy that you chose not to address the chip situation again. I don't think either Buffy or Spike are really there yet. It is a bridge they will have to cross, but it is not a decision to be made lightly for either of them.
I want to be with you, Buffy. I really do. Here's the thing. It's easy, and fun to vilify Riley, but I am never totally comfortable that it is 100% the right thing to do. There is no question that he is wrong for Buffy, and is way too indoctrinated and willing to blindly follow orders, and later proves to have something a a sadistic streak, and... Wait - I guess I don't have that much trouble vilifying Riley after all, lol. Still, he does have some all around nice guy qualities, and I get the feeling he is being sincere here.
What is the Initiative’s goal in capturing and torturing the demon population? Direct and straight to the point. Go Buffy! She's not going to win any friends with this attitude, but then again, canon her didn't either. At least this way her position is clear, both in her own mind and, hopefully, to the initiative. Now if she can only be as forthright with Riley...
Orrr maybe you tell us what you know first?...Xander asks helpfully Okay then. We really are in upside down and backwards world. Xander and Giles both at least nominally including Spike as part of the team? Even with Buffy's issues (and really, with her subconscious obsessed with what she walked in on, she kind of can be forgiven for having them ) this is a much more productive, healthier dynamic.
The bone structure of his face is kind of nice, too Yep. Kind of nice. And water is kind of damp. Poor Buffy is in full fledged denial at this point. I don't even have words to express how much I love this conversation between Spike and Buffy. It has shades of the honesty and companionship that we saw in early season six, only deeper and luckily without the extreme pulled from heaven depression on Buffy's part. It also neatly sidesteps the whole issue of Spike being so much further ahead emotional investment wise than Buffy. He's not trying to impress her, he is being honest. And that is SO much better for both of them.
It takes several beats for her to recognize what’s racing in her blood and singing her nerves...I want that. Umm.. yep. And that's kind of the problem. The poor deluded girl doesn't realize that the 'that' she wants is a 'who.' And Riley is not the 'who'.
I guess it depends what kind of demon they were. If all they do is, I don’t know, eat grass all day, they’re not much of a threat. That's not really a ringing endorsement of personhood. "Not much of a threat" doesn't mean he believes that they have a right to exist, or that they shouldn't be experimented on. It likely just means he doesn't consider them high priority.
Buffy catches Spike peering at Xander with something akin to astonishment. I am peering at Xander the same way. This is a remarkable amount of open-minded maturity coming from him the I am greatly enjoying.
It doesn’t mean anything. I can’t trust your word. To our soft Spuffy brains that sounds harsh, but for where they both are at this point, I really think it is justified. Spike hasn't thought through his 'I won't kill' promise. It's a grasping at straws statement from a desperate man. Buffy is right, this is nothing that they can decide now. At least he reaction to his impending suicide has given him something else to think about...
Ah, Buffy. There you are. Is everything alright? No, not really, not by a long shot. If I loved the first long conversation between Buffy and Spike in this chapter, then I need to come up with a new emotion to cover this one. You've given us a live rendition of Spike's dream, but you have done it in such a manner that we can see and sympathize with all of the very real and complicated emotions on both sides.[Report This]
