I have been going crazy trying to find this story. I remembered the plotline, but for the life of me not the title or author. Spent three days searching and overlooking this one because the summary didn't fit my recall of the plot. Big Mistake. I'll not forget the title or your name again.
I just reread the entire story and was reminded why I was so desperate to find it. Simply W O W! I am as blown away as I was when you started posting and I read the first chapter.
Mark of a great fiction is the reader being on tenterhooks to discover what happens next. Certainly it is and I am. More when you can. Love it!
[Report This]And again with Hank being imbued with more bravery than I gave him credit for. Nice!
Nice perk for Buffy. Wondering where Spike and Angel were going. Anxiously waiting for the next chapter regarding the fall out to come.
[Report This]Oh no! One good thing about Hank is he acted instinctively to protect his daughter which is more than he did in canon. The writing of the scenes in this chapter really painted a compelling picture in my mind. You had just the right words used!
Thank you for “…antecedent to Darla’s civilizing influence. This delight in violence, revel and damn all consequence, was a human thing.” Such a true statement in this reader’s opinion.! Liam was a lout.
Whew. Good news halfway in! “There wasn’t a mark on her.” ??? What about all the blood?!
The Scourge was featured in AHS Season 1 so I find it hard to believe that Angel is so ignorant. Maybe his mind is clouded and still being affected by his circumstances. Or I am forgetting what Season setting is currently in? This is such a long fic and it’s been some time since the beginning.

You are so into what I think is the correct version of Angel’s viewpoint. “Why was she belaboring the point?” His view is all that matters and why go on about it. He is so oblivious to others feelings.

It makes sense that Spike would be comfortable in a great many environments considering how long he’s been in existence.
Re a pool and needing “to keep the creepy crawlies out.” I looked at a house with an indoor pool once and realized that although the house was in my price range, I could not afford the pool maintenance. Being in the Deep South, creepy crawlies are ubiquitous and quarterly exterminating plans are considered a utility.
Just…WOW….on that setting!
[Report This]Hank is showing his true colors in this chapter for sure.
Interesting conclusions from both Buffy and Spike regarding their dreams. Hmm.

Second time through
Last time there were only 150 chapters and the new five chapters really kicked things off. I still think the chapters are too short for my own personal taste. I'll try not to retread things that I said last time, to that end I have to say that I'm kind of digging the Finn and Drusilla thing you have going. It really got me to thinking and I could so see them as a duo. The Fannon on Riley says he needs someone to take care of, and Drusilla certainly fits that at times. In this story he seems immune to her Thrall which I think is a neat little thing. It wouldn't surprise me if all of the Initiative Commandos are resistant thanks to the demon cocktail that made them super soldiers. It would explain why Forest wasn't able to be Pushed. by Sean. The guy is also a soldier and that's not too far off from being a knight for a princess. Finn also has a thing for the bite. I can actually see the two of them together even if Riley is never turned.
Sean seems to be a major player and I've kind of got the impression that he is going to be the big bad eventually, or at least someone that will have to be taken out or disabled. Everyone that comes in contact with him seems to be bending over backward to make his life easier. Now suddenly he has Buffy and Spike for protection and people who do him dirty are winding up dead. And I didn't miss that Buffy's Watcher building was being encroached on by the strangle weed while Sean and Giles were having their conversation. I also noticed that Sean kept saying that everyone was getting on to him about his thralling of Xander, but Buffy, Spike, and Angel didn't seem to care... Which thanks to Giles we the reader now now that by doing his revers empath trick it gets those he thinks are angry and upset at him to try an console him. Which screams to me he is fuckin with them all. It's like he has take Willow's role in the manipulation of Scoobies for this story. All that being said I still think the guy is a bland character. If he is a red haring then he is boring, and if he is doing dirty behind the scenes then there needs to be a scene soon where he is checking in with Graham and the timberwolves who are collecting fledges for the cause to see how deep he is on that front.
I'm actually more concerned that Hasna, the Ifrit burned the quite a few things. I can get her taking out the files in the initiative office, Graham and her seem close and it was hinted at that he told her about it. But how, and why, did she burn the underground missionary? That hints at future knowledge, so either someone has gotten ahold of Giles, Buffy, or Spike's journal with future knowledge, or Hasna is getting it from someone else. My money is on Drusilla since she knew about the moon vine, and was Tarzanning on powerlines in a way that Buffy, I think, said she didn't do until further in the future.
Ethan's story line also seems interesting. I have a hunch that the urban druids are going to end up in his sanctuary, although I'm still liking the idea of Buffy and Spike needing to use as a safe house during their war. Granted you might have something more interesting for the place but something called the All War sounds like its going to be a global threat, which should require Buffy to gather up her girls. It would be interesting if the Dexters and Potentials still got together. I don't see why a Potential can't make a Claim. I mean aside from not being called and immortal... damn that can't happen because of the lore you've created. Oh well.
I think that's it for new stuff. I still enjoyed the story even on the second time through. I did find myself skimming the more descriptive scenes until dialogue showed up. I don't know what that says about your story but its what I personally did. I also rather enjoyed your partial of Hank Summers. It was actually the first time I seen him as someone who had a hand in raising Buffy. Almost everyone, when Buffy's parents are brought up, focus in on Joyce and ignore that for sixteen years there was another parent in the house and that they would have had just as much influence on her. So for that I thank you as it's made me think about trains Buffy could have gotten from her Father.
Thanks once again for sharing this story. I'm looking forward to seeing it's completion some day.
[Report This]Another fascinating chapter, though now I'm impatient to read what actually happened between the previous Buffy POV and this one (in the Dreamlands, I mean).
Also, it's nice to have some Kate in there. I always felt her character had lots of potential, but they just let her disappear without doing much of anything with it.

Loving the turns and twists you're introducing to this cousin (sizewise) of War and Peace. ;) And also very pleased with Hank's appearance and activity. I've only seen him introduced in a few fanfics before: one that saw him Vengeance-cursed to view Buffy's life and tribulations, and another where his near-demonic skills as an LA lawyer let him join others in saving Buffy's bacon. Both seem to have vanished in the meantime; thanks for bringing him back. There are a lot of possibilities to be explored his his character.
Thanks. I haven't read much with Hank as an actual character. He's usually vilified from afar, as befits a deadbeat dad, but for the first couple of seasons, he wasn't like that. A lot of what I'm doing with this story is having Buffy reexamine her life in Sunnydale from the vantage point of someone much older. She had to get a better look at Hank, too.
And yes. It's long. So long. So very, very long. It's really six whole stories intertwined. There are six protagonists with complete transformational arcs. Holy Game of Thrones, why did I think that was a good idea? Word to the wise: Do not do!
Thanks for reading! 🌺🌺🌺
