Nice. So many stories effectively end with them walking into the sunset together. I've always worried about what would happen after that. Now I know. :)
I wanted that evergreen ending for them, where they can be together and have adventures forever with all the people they care about, so I wrote one, lol.
Such a sweet story! I don't know how I missed this one, I thought I'd read everything of yours. This actually brought tears to my eyes when Buffy burst into Spike's crypt. Loved it!
I love to think of them having the perfect (for them) happily ever after than ever ends :-) Thank you so much for the read and review!
Now there's a little pick-me-up for a down day! What fun.
:-D I just wanted to give them a world where things could be as if the show went on forever and ever. (thank goodness for fanfic!!)
Best way to make a character death into the currently being discussed "fluff" *grin*
Thanks for the smile creating happily ever after that actually is an ever after.
Ha! Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the read and review!
I think one of my favorite little pieces of this is how, even though Buffy is clearly over living for anything, she keeps going-just like Spike asked her to. And then she gets her reward. So lovely!
Poor Buffy, sometime being the one still alive is really hard, even if it's the right thing to do!
This was so sweet and I loved it. Spike made Sunnydale for Buffy. I can't get over Merrick's last line! Epic one shot.
I can see Merrick and Giles happily bickering over every thing (and Buffy grabbing Spike and hauling him off so they can go punch whatever problem in the face)
Yay! I'm glad even Merrick was there at the end. It was sad at first, but such a wonderful happy ending. Great work, as always!
Thank you! (A story called Happily ever after had to have a happily ever after! )
I loved every word of this!
It started out heartbreaking at the thought that Spike, in spite of his years of sacrifice and service, had not made it into heaven. Still seems sad BUT where he is now with Buffy there (and then the others) IS heaven for him so he does get his reward. Maybe that was the Powers plan all along?
All the fluffy clouds and vague feelings of the heaven Buffy started in wouldn't be quite the heaven of a recreated Sunnydale, not to him and I think not to her either. I imagine Buffy would have been bored eventually in the other place.
I am beyond delighted that everyone else came to join them there making purgatory their heaven too. Since my concept of heaven is being reunited with all those I love that makes this heaven, tailor made.
Now Angel just needs Cordy to join him at his farm and all would be perfect (If Cordy is too busy being a Power herself then Faith could be a lovely companion for him instead since they both had chemistry with Angel IMHO).
I can imagine Giles and Merrick acting like a pair of bachelor uncles vying for Buffy's affection LOL.
So amazingly bittersweet imagining Spike building his Sunnydale never knowing for certain if he'd see Buffy again. After all he had to wonder if she would "give up heaven" just for him even if they had a century of love between them. Now they have all the time that is to finally get rid of his insecurities. It seemed very in character for him to build his world and wait in hope.
I am happy that Angel is the one who took her to Spike. Very symbolic. He finally relinquished his "claim" on her in a very literal way and took his place as a dear friend of both instead of a rival. Good he also has a place that makes him happy in his Irish "suburb" to Spike's Sunnydale.
Such a heartbreaking long time to imagine: “Thank this. It’s been you, for bringing me.” She couldn’t stop looking around at the houses and cars. It all felt so right. ... “I didn’t do it just for you. Spike’s not really been okay since he got here. He barely speaks to me, except to ask about some detail of the town he doesn’t remember well, like the library of the old high school. I’ve had to live with his grief and watch him hurt. I’vre neve known him to be like a good thing he’s had this to work on, I can’t imagine how much worse it’d be if he didn’t.” Some damaged part of Spike didn't want to think or hope because there was that grain of doubt that she would choose him over all her loved ones and heaven.
It’s easy to pretend that those who care about you are just on the other side of the door. Spike can sit on your back porch and believe you’ll be out in a moment, or sulk outside of the back door of the Bronze thinking you’ll come barreling out. Yes. That spark of hope that he hopes isn't self-delusion.
I’ll climb up that tree outside your window and pretend that you’re about to come through your bedroom door.” ... Buffy stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and put her hands on her hips. “Angel–“ ... “Don’t worry.” He shook his head. “I know whose girl you are. It doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy those memories And still slightly creepy but would it be Angel and not have a bit of cringe-making traits?
She couldn’t even speak, just throw herself into his arms. They banded around her and at last she was at peace. Yes, THIS is her peace not the other place where he was missing.
Welcome home, Slayer. Indeed.
Loved, loved, loved it. Equal parts tear and heart tugs and happy smiles.
I was writing this big, long reply and the interwebs just ate it
Anyway, the jist of was that I believe life is what you make of it (or the afterlife) and that other people's idea of happy doesn't have to be your idea of happy.
I left Faith out of Buffy's family and friends because I figured she'd be better with Angel's set. (And if I liked Angel more I write him his own little story where he's sitting moping in front of his fire and all his friends descend on him. Of course then he'd have to find something else to mope about, because he's not happy if he's not internally torturing himself).
I can see Giles and Merrick arguing (and enjoying every minute of it) over the best way to handle something and Buffy rolling her eyes, grabbing Spike, and heading off to punch whatever the problem is in the face.
Poor Spike, for him it's better to live with her ghost than to not imagine her at all.
And finally, this fic serves to recreate that feeling that usually the end of a TV show has...that (no matter how improbable) the characters stay as they are and keep doing what they do. BtVS didn't let us imagine that at all...so I wanted a way to feel like it could go on and on.
Thank you for the read and review and being so kind :-D
I smiled so big once she saw Spike that now my face hurts for keeping it for that long lmao. Very cute! Sigh, I just love them together. And I love the way you write them together!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy! Poor Spike, I felt kind of mean giving him only pretend hope...but at least it turned into the real thing! (Poor guy never thinks he's worthy) I appreciate the read and review!
Bloody hell, you made me cry! And laugh. That was wonderful.
I would love to read an expanded version of this, maybe about their reunion after NFA?
Anyway, great job. Really beautiful.
There's so much history there it'd be hard to pick a point to write about, though really this could follow on from almost any post NFA reunion with an open end (and no kiddos) :-)
Loved it. Their heaven could only be in each others arms. Love your solution of the purgatory and that all her friends and familly are following.
Thank you! They wouldn't end up anywhere else!
Buffy and Spike had a good life, so of course she was scared when she couldn't find him in heaven. I liked seeing Angel being a good person and explain that vampires must spend the afterlife in purgatory. It was lovely seeing Buffy meet Spike in the recreated Sunnydale and when her friends come over looking live their too.
Poor Buffy, but it just wouldn't be her reward without him!
I think this is the nicest I've ever been to Angel (and Riley, for that matter)
This is sort of me hugging the show and acknowledging that in my mind, it never ends
Thank you for the read and review!
