Brilliant start, great feel for the house and there's an obvious attraction between the two.

I wonder what Buffy is missing? He seems familiar but she cant place him.

Great beginning x

It's always weird when we run into someone out of context, we know we SHOULD recognize them...there's a good reason for it, I'm a little surprised no one guessed yet what it might be. thanks for reading and reviewing.

Man I am loving this one right out of the gate! I know a small part is because I live in Albuquerque and you've done a great job with the setting.  (I had to watch each episode of Breaking Bad twice ... once for the story and once to squeal at the locations since they filmed a lot of it in my area including a scene at the house across the street from us).

I love that Spike is a celebrity but she doesn't know him so they are meeting as people not fangirl and crush.

I just loved the gushing over the shower and its features (WANT this so bad).  Spike is clearly in love with it LOL. I hope eventually he gets to demonstrate all it's attractions with Buffy during her holiday).

He's endearing and she is sweet and I'm already wanting them together.  I love Dawn in this too.  Cute how the sisters play their father.

Santa Fe is a good choice.  We have lots of celebrities who live throughout NM but Santa Fe and Taos are the big draws.

“So, I’m going to tell him that a brilliant opportunity just opened up to spend the weekend in Santa Fe counting moths.”  ROFL!  Okay that works  Bwahahaha.  (aside:  Now I'm going to be looking at every Yucca from my house to Santa Fe and expecting to see these little buggers thank you very much!  At least they stay outdoors unlike the scorpions and centipedes and spiders that I've seen in every place I've lived in NM!)

Buffy landed in Albuquerque  This gave me such a happy!  Most people think you fly directly to Santa Fe and I've seen that in many a story set here in NM even published stories.  There IS a very small airport in SF but it is mostly commuter flights.  Albuquerque is the major airport for all of NM then I25 takes you to points north and south from there.  We have a newish rail system that can pick you up at the "Sunport" and it goes up to Santa Fe, nice!  Anyway thank you for getting it right, it gladdens my heart and I love little details like that.  And a place, not far from here, known for miracles. The dirt has healing properties.  CHIMAYO!!!!  El Santuario and the dirt well in a room full of crutches and so on....COOL to see the reference.

Lovely descriptive passages, felt like we were getting that tour.  Good way to have them interact on first meeting.

Yeah I've heard stories of how some fans behave and shake my head in amazement.  I don't tend to get star struck but at the same time can't see ever acting like a celebrity is on a dildo level of sharing LOL.

This is really compelling and I can't wait for more.

Yucca moths are integral to the lifecycle of the Yuccas and there is a specific species of moth for each species of Yucca! They are the same color as the flowers and snuggle into them, so unless you look you would never know they are there! OK, lesson over. lol.

No way could Buffy afford a flight into Santa Fe, she gets to take the scenic route like the rest of us mere mortals.

We are not finished with Chimayo yet! It ends up playing an integral part in the story. It's a wonderful place and a beautiful experience to go there with an open mind and heart. I admit I do love to pull spirituality into my stories, fan fic and original fic. In all human BTVS fics, it's a nice way to bring in the supernatural elements. Even people without a specific faith usually have things that touch and speak to their souls and I like to honor that, and explore it. It brings to light so much about a person, yet it's often overlooked in a rush to get to the "good stuff" in a story.

We've already seen that Buffy has made some level of assumption about Spike, immediately thinking he was making fun of people on gluten free diets as some kind of weirdos, at the same time she is seeing that he has been deeply moved by his experience at this place. He takes issue with her asking if he "used" the cook, and she thinks it's weird that Mike has his superstitious dirt. She's just come here to stay in the home of her crush, but Spike already wants her to have more than that from the experience. We'll have to see how far both of them are willing to go to make this vacay memorable! (I think we should start a pool as to when the term "vacay" will first show up on Masterpiece Theater!)

Another interesting thing about writing this is the opportunity to explore a bit more about the fans relationships with the celebs. For a variety of reasons, I've had a lot of opportunities this year to talk to people about their experiences with that, and it's been very interesting, as well as me having opportunities to meet a number of my fave celebs this year, so I thought it would be interesting to play around with.

Thank you for your kind words and review! It's nice to share the story with someone who loves the area as much as I do. I can't wait till I have the chance to go back.

When you do come back let me know in advance and we can do a meet up!  I didn't know Gort was in Santa Fe until she had already moved. sad2.

A side trip to Chaco Canyon and the ruins is very spirit moving too as is the area around Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch.  Both north of Santa Fe and to the west.

I love Chimayo (except when it's overcrowded on Good Friday with the pilgrims).  Did you get the story of the walking statue at the other church in the square there?

I like having a spiritual element in stories too.  So much of our personality can be explored and explained by our beliefs and that includes atheists (and I do not mean that in a negative, some very moral people do not believe in a God).  It informs who we are and how we act IMHO. I am not Catholic but was born to that religion and raised/educated in their system in a devoted family.  Those things still are a part of who I am all these years later and were the foundation of my current belief system.  Even when a person "leaves" a religion parts stick.

Cool about the moths ... I'll have to look for them when I next see a flowering Yucca.

Author's Response on October 23, 2016 02:49pm

Next time I am up that way I will definitely let you know ahead so we can meet! I did visit a few other churches in Santa Fe and learn their stories and miracles as well. There is something powerful about being in a place that has been imbued with faith, even when the particulars are different from your own. I cannot imagine going there and not being moved deeply by the experience.

I was likewise raised in a devout Catholic family, though from Irish and Eastern European backround so quite different from Native and Hispanic Catholic culture, and have gone my own way. My faith and faith practice are extremely important and enriching to my life. I've spent this entire weekend preparing, cooking and decorating for Dias de los muertos. I need to find my packet of blessed earth from Chimayo, my life could use a sprinkling of it about now!

A few readers have mentioned they are familiar with Chimayo. I hope I do it justice, even though I don't go into TOO much detail on the particulars, it's hard to explain the power of the place in words. But we all have our holy places, so I am sure everyone can project a bit and understand how a place can deeply affect one.

The muse really took her head with this story. I was one is going to want to hear about that...but here a few people have mentioned it, so I guess the must knows best!

pfeifferpack Replied on October 23, 2016 03:45pm

Yup Irish/American family too, Rosary daily, Mass every Sunday and holy day of obligation and first Friday, the whole enchilada none of that Easter and Christmas only stuff LOL.  Different but as I've lived out here in NM for years (since 1979) I find much similar in the Hispanic version.

The well at Chimayo was considered sacred and a place of healing by the Native Americans before the Spanish came actually.  Yeah, hard to explain.

ALWAYS trust the muse!

I look forward to you coming back out here.

Catholicism is a rich faith, but when I was growing up in Chicago we didn't get this kind of color and celebration!

So happy to see one of your stories again! I squeed, for sure.

I loved your last story so much, that it has taken me weeks to get back in here and read anything else without feeling a huge sense of loss. Weird, right? Never had a story leave me like that. Just started reading some new stories by Sigyn, then saw yours. Cute and fun so far. Always unique, and a breath of fresh air. Thanks for sharing your talent with all of us!

Thank you so much. It's nice to be sharing another journey with you and I do hope that this story is something a little different. You know me, as soon as it feels like things are falling into place I like to say "but what if we go in a different direction instead!" We'll see where this one takes us.

Okay, this was just cute (and a wee bit silly).

Loved the rolling tour that 'Spike' was giving Buffy.  You have my attention and I will look forward to finding out what is hidden in the secret room.

Oh... and ick on if people actually have celebrities sign some of the stuff you mentioned *shudder*.

Thanks for sharing!

Author's Response on October 23, 2016 09:04am

Thanks for reading and reviewing. Some people found the detail of the house a bit boring, the rest of us are trying to figure out how to rent the place!

I'm having an interesting and thought provoking time addressing the issue of fan/celeb interactions. When people crush on a character the actor played rather than the actor themselves, it's easy to get caught up in fantasy and forget there's a "man behind the curtain". Buffy has a bit of a game here trying to figure out, on several levels, just who this guy is.

Opening that door is definitely going to be eye opening, but maybe not in the way some might expect.

jhiz Replied on October 23, 2016 12:25pm

I fall into the character lover category and I would have to admit that I would probably not recognize the people who play a character I love (heck, I have gone to open hockey signing events and not recognized players and I was expecting them so I can realistically see your set up *smile*)

You have so perfectly described the wackiness and beauty that is Santa Fe I can't even tell you. Yes, people are crazy, no, not all of them are, yes the desert is amazing and the food is fantastic and shoot, now I really want to go back to Santa Fe. Are you working for the tourism board? *eyes suspiciously*

I love how much Buffy is not into but is TOTALLY INTO Spike, and how he's all mopey about her not recognizing him! Dawn would so be rolling her eyes at them both.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's Response on October 22, 2016 08:04pm

Writing this has me missing Santa Fe in a big way. It's a very special place. Luckily we get a couple more chapters in the land of sky and magic. Dawn will definitely get her opportunity to do her signature eye roll! Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Lovely! I really admire how with just a few little touches everything got more into focus. One of my favourite things in this chapter is how Buffy sees Spike in "installments": first the hair, then the eyes, the smile, the style, the step at a time.

Great dialogue, just great.

...and thanks for mentioning the almost nothing I did!

Nice introductory chapter here! It was a tad bit slow just hearing about all the features of the house, but Buffy's growing interest in Spike helped balance that. I'm curious to find out if he sticks around and what Dawn thinks if she's able to join the "vacay".

Who signed your pig? I'm curious, now.

"and roll around on Mike Delaney’s bed without her sister giving her the signature eye roll."

“I feel guilty separating you. Maybe I should let you have one last go.”

I cackled aloud at Mike and Spike having a dildo rule biggrin

Buffy trying to combine innocent and coquette is a cute image heart Fun start, will watch out for more!

Author's Response on October 22, 2016 05:28pm

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm having fun with this Buffy, who's spunky, but she has a little sad thing going on in the back round too. Luckily her sad thing isn't making her bitchy, it's making her approachable which makes for a nice version of her.

It's also fun to be dealing with fan girl syndrome in a fic. The man who signed my pig, is Mark Devine. He's a sweety! I didn't have him sign it because I wanted to stand out though, it was sort of a joke between us because he doesn't have 8 x 10's for sale and I told him that until he does I'm going to bring the most interesting things I can find for him to sign. He was delighted by the pig.  Mark does rent out one of his homes, but it's not in Santa Fe and the house in this story isn't based it, but I stole the idea because I thought it was fun.

I did like this. Buffy's thoughts and how she interacted with Dawn and later with Spike was enjoyable. Poor him, he's still suffering from a badly broken heart.

If I was a celebrity I wouldn't want to rent out my house to fans. I would be scared to touch anything after thatbiggrin

Author's Response on October 22, 2016 05:29pm

I know right? Fans are CRAZY and shameless! We'll hear a bit more about Spike's broken heart in the next chapter, stay tuned! Thanks for the review.

magnus374 Replied on October 23, 2016 09:23am

From another review it seemed like we should be able to guess who Spike is. When I started reading I wondered if he really was Mike who just had changed how he looked. But in that case shouldn't Buffy at least notice them looking alike? Could also be a brother I suppose.

Author's Response on October 23, 2016 02:55pm

Nah, there's no way for the readers to guess his actual identity, that part is pure fiction, but we will find out the reasons that she doesn't recognize him, and a few of them might sound familiar.

That being said, I have heard a few people say that the person Mike is loosely based on  and James Marsters look like they could be brothers. I don't see it, but seeing that I am pretty taken with each of them for their own sake, they definitely stand out as individuals to me.

Sometimes I think we really fall for a character and when that person is out of character, we simply can't place them. Could also be the sign of a really good actor. I haven't made the chapter breaks yet, so I'm not sure how many chapters before we get it all sorted out.

What a fun beginning! I really liked the setup of the story, the sisterly get away at a celebrity's place no less. I wonder if Buffy will get up to any mischief.

Spike's got me feeling for him already, he's obviously nursing a broken heart and I just want to reach in a give him a hug. Maybe Buffy will give him something better... ;)

I really enjoyed this first chapter, and am looking forward to your next update.

Author's Response on October 22, 2016 01:09pm

Thanks Amy, I'm so glad you like it. We definitely have a more thoughtful, older Spike here, but he still has all of his wry humor, mischief, and attitude intact. It was fun to have them meet in a place I like so much and far away from Sunnydale. This story has also given me the opportunity to explore all the different aspects of relating between fans and celebs and a chance to see how things look from either side.
