Oh man, at first I thought Buffy was gonna be a major asshole by getting Spike chipped up, but I caught on quick to the thralling. Really, with only a single reference to Buffy doing it before and her method of it, this was a brilliant sequence.
I liked giving Buffy just a little bit of power we’re not used to her having. Just a little fake out— glad you caught on!
What would Buffy think and feel if the roles were reversed - if she was the individual who was going to get a behavioral modification chip inserted into her brain. This is such a horrible idea and the premise that her indoctrination by Giles, CoW and how emotionally she has been screwed over by her relationship with Angel/Angelus is playing such a huge factor in her projection of all those emotions and judgements on to her perceptions of Spike.
What would Buffy have done as a human and as a slayer if she had to defend her mother or any of the scoobs had they come under the attack of a human? Would she have let Warren continue his attack had she known that Tara or Xander were going to be killed? Angelus in fact was doing exactly the same thing as Spike was doing when he attacked the werewolf - saving his life and hers. The story has already brought in the idea that even normal vamps, even young ones, under the right circumstances can control their actions - why can't Spike be given the same "free choice" consideration as she has given to Angelus' minion vamps?
I hope this turns out differently and that she is not imposing her own world view on another sentient being - good or evil, Spike can make his own choices.
I Sure hope this is actually Buffy being all clever and making a plan to get both of them the hell out of the hands of Walsh and the Initiative.
Would I make my Buffy that terrible? Well, I might, actually, but... you'll have to keep reading to see!
I like the way their strange relationship is developing and I absolutely loved that Buffy heard exactly the type of person/vampire Angel is with and without his soul. It worries me that she's insistent on Spike getting chipped, but I'm hoping it's a ploy to get them out of the arena and in a room together, especially with her constant insistence, the strange thrall she's capable of. Great chapter.
Yeah, the relationship is already complicated, and they haven't even done anything but be stuck in the same stress-environment cell. I think Buffy thought about the idea of the chip... and had a clearer view on it since she was a vampire herself.
I’m not alone. Give any vampire an incentive not to, and an alternate food source, and most of them will give it up, so long as they can still get their fight on someway or another. Ask any baddie in LA, or hell, half the baddies here in Sunnydale, they’ll know most vamps minion up real easy, so long as you give them the right motivation and a strong enough role model. The real question isn’t whether I’ll kill humans, the question is why, but you know, I don’t think you deserve any of this information, Slayer didn’t say. - Beautiful.
I... really only have records of the one - *snort* that's because that's all he did.
Holy shit. Buffy has a thrall. YES YES YES.
Also, I really hope she isn't going to let Spike get chipped. That's just... sick, actually.
Yep! Carefully inserted Buffy's casual thrall in chapter 2, and here it comes again, the Chekhov's Gun of vampire fic....
“No, no, no, Spike, listen to me! That’s—” In all honesty even if it WERE Oz what does Buffy expect Spike to do? In the werewolf form there is no reasoning with it. If she and Spike hold back the werewolf will tear them apart. hold him captive until the moon set and they could explain things to him Yes because their captors wouldn't just use those flame throwers! Oh dear, naive, girl.
Spike seemed to grow even angrier, his hunger replaced by sheer rage as he roared, leaping over Slayer like the monster he was. He's angry because the werewolf hurt Buffy. Leave it to her to see that as making him a monster.
Slayer stopped with her hand still pulled back for a strike. A girl? The werewolf was female? So perfectly Buffy...hit first and listen later if ever. What was she doing? But what had he done? What was the right thing...? And I can't help but feel sorry for her. All her certainties have been turned upside-down. Even being made a vampire didn't do that to her. It's only having Spike there in her face and challenging her "truth" that has confounded her.
“I was told you were intelligent,” she said. “I wasn’t quite sure I could believe it.” No one ever seemed to realize how intelligent Buffy (or Spike for that matter) truly was. Of course Maggie has no clue whatsoever what she is dealing with at all.
“I don’t drink human if I can help it.” ... Walsh nodded, as if she had been half expecting this, and Finn pulled out a coffee mug which held — Slayer sniffed it — pigs blood. A test no doubt.
Sounded like the goddamn eugenics of the Third Reich. Because it was. The whole Initiative reeked of the Third Reich IMHO. At least they acknowledged it on Angel in Why We Fight.
(Slayer was pretty sure this shit still wouldn’t be okay if the demons were just dogs or something. She thought it was sick, and she was a vampire!) Yup and the number one reason I despise Riley...he NEVER saw a thing wrong with what they were doing.
the demon in her screamed,Look at him! He is power! and the soul inside her cried out, Look at him! He’s a monster! She is more split in her viewpoints than Spike for all his strong human traits! What hell she has been living.
“But this chip,” Slayer said again. “You could implant it in, say, Spike down there, right? You could bring him up here? For the chip? And then he couldn’t hurt anyone?” You had me scared there. It seemed so plausible that Buffy would be pro chip.
I think one of the horrifying parts of the whole Initiative storyline was how very plausible it was that a government (given the existence of demons or ET's or some other worldly being) would most likely do something just like they had them doing on the show. Maggie's grand scheme for super soldiers and military supremacy are not the stuff of fantasy. I remember reading that the military once even tested the frisbee for possible weapons potential! In a world where we already have enough stockpiled weapons to destroy the world many times over it is insanity but it seems fairly universal. I truly think if there ARE extraterrestrials that are aware of us they have a quarantine on our planet. We're rather mad.
I don't think Slayer had time to really think it through. She just didn't want (who she thought was) Oz to die, and... that's a fair enough impulse.
Riley was a pig. If anyone was soulless... Well, he was certainly THOUGHTLESS. As in never once thought about the implications of any of it. And if being soulless is lack of empathy...
What, I scared you, a pro-chip Buffy? I think the thought might have occurred to her if she wasn't currently being held personally by a bunch of very evil humans. She was already very disillusioned by Walsh.
Oh I was so relieved it wasn's Oz! Veruca being out of the picture is not a bad thing, although it has damaged Buffy and Spike's relationship. Great chapter.
Not Oz. Always a good thing, not killing your friends....
Oooohh when Buffy mentioned the chip... I was just yelling ( well I'm reading this in a lecture so not out loud 😂😂😂) "Buffy...... sttaaahhhhppppp"
You're great at this... at the end, TWIST!!!
Buffy I know that soul is messing with your head but you just lowered your chance of escape. Spike right now can and will do the things you won't do. Like damage or even kill to get out of there. You take that ability away from him and it will be harder to get out of there. And he'll hate you when he finds out it was your idea.
She does have her head mixed up, but she's not as dumb as she looks.
It wasn't Oz but it's still troubling to Slayer. A vampire is a hybrid creature but a werewolf are two separate creatures in one body. When human, they are all human and in demon (it's probably is some kind) they are all demon. This make it impossible for Buffy to ignore that it is a human.
Buffy's talk with Walsh was a great one. Buffy is using her head and are very careful with what she is saying. We can see that she is making plans and is trying to create an opportunity to get away. Hopefully Spike can avoid getting chipped.
I don't know about the two creatures vs. hybrid thing. Oz stated that the wolf was in him all the time, and it certainly seemed to be in Veruca. Still, it was very troubling.
Well, the wolf do affect them some it seems, but when in wolf form they seemed totally different from the human self, no control. The control Oz tried was to prevent the wolf form, nothing about having control in it. That's why it seems more like two creatures in one body to me. It doesn't really matter, just an observation on how werewolves and vampires act.
I think you might just be pulling a bait and switch, perhaps Buffy has thralled Walsh into bringing Spike to her, making her falsely believe Buffy wants her to implant a chip, so the 2 of them can make a break for it... once they're together again... but maybe not.......maybe Buffy really wants Spike to be chipped so he can't harm humans, thereby justifying her keeping Spike near her.......Either way, I won't know until next chapter.....Really glad it was Veruca and not Oz....... Does this mean we'll see Oz and Willow in the story? I always liked Oz and didn't like what the writers did with him in season 4 , I always found it so out of character for him, but whatever you do, I know it will be entertaining.......I still hope Riley gets eaten :).
*snigger* You are hilarious! Chips and werewolves and complicated storylines....
Oh, thank goodness it was Veruca and not Oz!
Oh, Maggie, you don't know what you're doing! Your telling all your secrets...
Yup, if Spike has a chip, you can keep him, Slayer. Not too sure he would be too happy about that though.
Thrall! Buffy has thrall! How utterly magnificent! Has she managed to screw the readings enough to bugger up the chip and let Spike help you fight your way out? Can't wait!
Yeah, remembered that, did you? I did plant that thrall thing in chapter 2, but it was pretty subtle. Hang on to your hats! Things get interesting from here!
OH NOES. I mean, you can't neuter your Spike and eat him t-- well. I suppose he might be thrilled to be chipped, in some alternative universe where he never much liked being a vampire in the first place and took up meditation for fun.
Yeah, he wouldn't much like this plan of Walsh's if he had the details.
"this shit still wouldn't be okay if the demons were just dogs or something" Exactly!
"time for the air-headed hair-toss" :))
"Wolves liked to howl... that was music, right?" Wow. Could Veruca really just do wolfy things, for the rest of the month? Interesting.
Yayy, thralled Maggie! Time (this chip) to bring Spike up here (this chip)! :)
Indeed lets bring spike up here to install this chip of yours. You know. This chip. Bring Spike. Bring. Here.
