Liked Dawn in this. It's good to see her being part of the story. Loved the conversations Buffy and Spike have, they do feel honest and real.
This was one of my favorite chapters in the story, such a nice little slice of life sort of thing, even though there was supernatural troubles brewing.
Another cool chapter! I loved that you told us about Dawn. I have been wondering about her, but I just didn't want to ask because I knew stuff would come up eventually about her. Anyway, Spike in this story really sounds like a cool guy. You make him sound like some super cool dude that everyone would appreciate to have on their side but fear to be enemies with. Like a mafia dude! Hehehe. Although seeing his way of interacting with people in this chapter, all I can say is that Joyce's opinions of him were really spot on. His charm and good looks are the things that gives him the advantage to get people(women to be exact) to do what he wants.. Not really nice thing if you ask me..
Anyway, as usual, great chapter! Gonna read the next one now!
Questions for B first!
B, have you ever gone on a vacation? Like out of the country one? If so, where were did you go and what was your most favorite one?
Spike's outlook is, if you've got it, flaunt it! Yes, he uses his good looks and charms to get people to bend to his way. He says it's no different than anyone using any talent or skill they have to their advantage. We all do it. If someone is good with computers they use it to earn a good income. Spike is very handsome, and it's opened a lot of doors and beds to him, no doubt. He doesn't give a toss as to whether or not it's nice. He says we do what we need to, to get by. Spike isn't especially nice. I mean, he's nice to me, and my mom, but most people who know him wouldn't use that term to describe him. He's effective.
You'll hear more about my travels as the story continues, so I won't go into any of that here.
"younged down the house" Great phrase
Good sign that Buffy has borrowed so much of Spike's vocabulary. :)
I love when she throws some of Spike's words in there! Since we don't get to hear him speak for himself, it's another way of him working his way into the story.
I enjoyed hearing more about Dawn and Buffy's relationship. I have the impression it's going to be an...interesting weekend when (not if) she meets Spike.
The English muffin thing made me all goo-y. I guess I should feel it's sort of predatory or creepy or something, but instead I turned all girly and just sighed over it.
About the English muffin... Buffy is experiencing what you describe over and over, she knows that she "shouldn't" react the way she does to his behavior, but she can't help it. I don't know if you are at all familiar with chickens. But roosters are basically just like Spike. They are very protective of their hens. They will fight off anything that tries to harm them, but they are also wildly romantic. They go around looking for food, and when they find a choice tidbit, they don't eat it themselves, they call for their hens and feed it to them. Then they have the courtship dance they do. But...when all is said and done, the rooster is the rooster and he mounts his hen and does that thing he does, but...it really is quite charming to watch them take care of their girls. They will tuck their girls under their wing at night too.
My daughter and I always sigh when we watch her rooster taking car of his hennies...we want THAT man! shame on us. Oh well, maybe it's how we are wired.
This chapter show us how difficult it can be when one family member doesn't know. It was good to hear about the situation with Dawn. I also greatly enjoy seeing how Spike acts. How he makes things "his" and how it is a vampire thing, do make sense.
Thankyou, as always for reading and reviewing! It is interesting to watch Spike "work", he's quite the operator! I'm glad you're enjoying it.
