I am SO glad he’s back!

That's the thing about Spike, he's really good at leaving, but he does have a tendency to keep popping up!

Spike reading body language: niice!

"In vampire time, two years is like a week" Fascinating idea

I see people have really had a blast with the Q&A! :)

Author's Response on September 12, 2016 03:36pm

Stuff's about to get REAL....hang on!

The Q&A was tremendous fun! I'm working on the last one as we speak, putting in an epilogue, if you have any burning questions...let me know!

Oh! ...It's half past 2 AM here, and nothing deep comes to mind. You might or might not regret you asked. :D Thanks!

Hey, Buffy, I'm a big fan. Sorry to pry, but inquiring minds want to know... how does the whole no blood flow thing work out with vampires and sex? Does Spike ever have any performance issues if he hasn't recently fed?

Author's Response on September 13, 2016 09:23am

Some of this comes up later in the story so I won't go into all of it.

I'm not a physiologist but I'll tell you what I've come to understand from things Spike has explained to me and what I gleaned from the books Wes and Giles had lying around. (Not surprisingly, when I was in high school they never had me read up on the mechanics of vampire erections) Vamps don't have a heartbeat but they do have body fluids, and they must stay hydrated as well as "fed". Dehydration is a big vampire bug-a-boo.

Basically think of flower in a vase. It has water and it stays open looking pretty good for awhile. Take it out of water and it wilts. Some flowers, even in a vase, open and close depending upon whether its day or night. Basically, even without a heartbeat they can move the fluids around inside of them according to the situation. Vampires do that too, more blood goes to muscles needed for fighting, feeding, etc. Same with erections, blood moves to their penis and they get a hard on.

They don't move the fluids the way a plant does, that's the physiology that I don't quite understand. They are supernatural beings and Spike says that it has to do with intent and that is why they have greater strength, healing and senses than humans. The supernatural intent can shuttle things around in their body more efficiently than regular human physiology.

Modern science backs this up. There are now gizmos that speed healing by "attracting" more blood flow or whatever to the injured part of the body. Leeches are an age old method that is based on the same basic idea. "Bleeding" has an actual scientific basis, but people started using it wrongly out of lack of understanding, but it still has its place.

When a human aims a punch, they "will"  strength into their arm and their body physically responds. When a vampire does it, the supernatural kicks in and the punch is that much more powerful because literally more everything, that makes a punch powerful, has been instantly shuttled to the arm.

Same with vampire erections. A healthy vampire does have more stamina and the ability to get hard again pretty much right away. They will it and the supernatural forces comply to overcome any limitation that human physiology is hampered by. Spike can, if he wants, think himself into an orgasm. He can fall asleep at will. He never has to worry about a shy bladder. He prefers, generally, to let nature take its course. Says it's more fun, but he's shown me the orgasm trick, or at least the ejaculation bit. Weird.

During sex, even though he CAN control his body like that, he doesn't. That's not what sex is about and he likes to let loose same as anybody. Spike can be the master of self control, but he rarely chooses to be when it comes to sex. I'm not complaining.

I love taking questions! There are some I won't answer either because they're too private or spoilers, but I'll always respond.

Oh, wow. That is extensive. :) Dactylgirl's "Getting (Meta)Physical" made me think of this question, but her theory wasn't nearly as detailed. :D

Thank you!

Only Spike would be able to charm Buffy's mom after she finds him in her room on her bed.

The crucifix is so much more than the cross Angel gives her in Welcome to the Hellmouth. I love it!

Personally I'm just relieved he's back. Not like I didn't know he would be, but still it feels better, lol.

Author's Response on June 22, 2016 07:39pm

I think all of us (well, maybe not Buffy's mom) were glad to see Spike again!

  Good chapter.

Yes,  Spike is back. I like their reunion,  it started out very awkward with him at the door with Joyce. I'm surprised though that Joyce issued an invitation but she can use a crossbow at least.  The scene in Buffy's room is cute and his present is very thoughtful.

So are crosses here more lethal than on the show?

Author's Response on June 11, 2016 10:45am

Thanks for reading and reviewing! Joyce is full of surprises! I'm with Buffy...I wonder if Joyce didn't have a suspicion or two regarding who Spike really was. The crucifix he brought her is more than just a thoughtful gift, we will be seeing more of it. The reason this particular cross/crucifix was so powerful is due to the fact that it has pieces of the cross of Christ in it. More about all that will come up soon.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.

Just found this,  I wish I had been good and given you a review per chapter - you deserve lots - but I was lazy and to keen to keep reading....

Fantastic original idea,  and great writing to back it up. I can't tell you how many times I've had to remind myself that this isn't a real memoir. It has such a convincing and reasonable tone.

I like the characters more than I would expect - I mean I'm pretty keen on the originals :-) but this Buffy is great.  Sensible,  down to earth and pleasantly unromantic.... you've managed to give me a mental image of them quite distinct from our normal Buffy and Spike.

And it's funny - I love the idea of Buffy so desperate she tries to pee all over the ritual thing - very pragmatic.

 Please keep posting

Thank you so much, I'm touched and honored. It's been a wonderful experience working with Buffy on her memoir. She was a bit worried when she began that readers might be disappointed that her life wasn't quite the way it was portrayed on TV, but she felt like it was a good story and it really happy that people are enjoying it.

The story is complete, I just do polishing editing as I go along, so updates should be posted on a regular basis. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.

I know that I use the word real very offten in my reviews for this, but that word really fits the characters, what they say and do. Spike being back bring out some awkwardness. It will take some time until they all act natural around each other. Spike giving that relic to Buffy was a big gesture.

Author's Response on June 10, 2016 09:44am

Well, this story is all about keeping it REAL, so your using that word puts a big smile on my face! It means I'm on target. And for Buffy, things are about to get VERY real. Life has a way of happening! I'm so glad you are still reading, enjoying and reviewing. I treasure your feedback.

You know I am really interested and found all the answers to my questions very hilarious. Angel being a narsissist? Hmm, why does that not surprise me? I sort of get a feeling that your Angel is like the Angel in tv-Spike's head. And really it was funny to read it.

Spike being a fan of comics doesn't surprise me either. He does struck me an a big kid and I am just thrilled to see that your Spike is like that too.

Your Buffy is also amazing. Real polite and again hilarous. That last part about how she wants to be written may be read like she was being a self-centered person but really her voice as you wrote her was so well written that I  actually imagined her smiling and laughing as she said those suggestions. Totally amazing writing skills you got there.

Anyway, for this chapter I just like to say that Yes, I agree with you that Joyce is the best. She is so accepting and very supportive yet at the same time she knows when to go all mother mode and try to protect her baby. I really like that about her. And the fact she scares Spike gives her more than enough brownie points to last a lifetime. She is ten times much better than the Joyce on TV, really she is. You too deserve brownie points for that one too.

I really love this fic and I really liked that Spike finally appeared. I also very much am glad that the dynamics between Spike and Buffy hadn't change despite of what happened back then two years ago. I totally envy Buffy though that she got such an amazing gift, not just because it was from Spike but because I really think that such a cross is special. I'm Catholic afterall so that kind of thing is just awesome for me. Hope she takes good care of it.

Anyway, another wonderful update and great job on that. I can't wait for thw next one. Thanks for sharing this fic and see you again in the next one! Good luck!

P.S. Buffy, first thanks for answering my questions, they were all hilarious and I really loved findinng out about them. Anyway, my next set of questions are the follow: What's your favorite food? Hated food? Who's the worst Big Bad you had ever faced?(If it's gonna be a spoiler and you'd rather not answer it, then at least give me a little detail on why you think he or she or it was the worst you've fought.) What's the most silliest enemy (or demon) you've ever faced? (In the series, I'd give this title to that fear demon. But that's for me) And finally, what's Spike biggest fear? (You can whisper it to me if you're afraid that he'll hear you. Don't worry I won't tell anyone about it. Nor will I use it against him in any way)

Thanks again for answering and tolerating my questions. I really enjoy them. Can't wait to read the answers and again Buffy, you are amazing!

I knew you'd like this chapter! It's good to have our Spike back isn't it! I have to admit, I like the real Joyce better than TV Joyce too. Buffy LOVES your questions. They keep her on her toes! You're going to be hearing a lot more about that crucifix. I think you'll like the next chapter too.

Your reviews are always a joy to read and respond to. Thanks for taking the time.
