Angel really is a prick isn't he? He wanted her to be jealous of him and Nina. She wasn't so he tries to sabotage her reunion and hopeful relationship with Spike?

Author's Response on May 06, 2016 10:07pm

Angel, for all his centuries, has the emotional IQ of a thirteen year old. At least, he does in in this story lol

Thank you for your review!

How can Angel do this/  it is really low, even for him.  Spike stuck with him through his stupid war, and he is still so spiteful that he works so hard to undermine Spike.  And hurt Buffy? Oh, btw, I have Nina and so i don't want you either. Jerk.

Author's Response on May 05, 2016 11:17pm

Haha, Angel's just a big stupidhead. He'll get worse before he gets better, but only in his own head, and he'll never stop the spuffy for long biggrin

Thank you for reviewing!!!

Typical Angel being an asshat. I am already in love with this fic but seriously hoping Buffy kicks a little Angel ass devil

Author's Response on May 05, 2016 11:14pm

Aw, thank you so much! I'm afraid Buffy will be a bit too busy to deal with Angel much more, but I am hopeful that you'll still like the resolution biggrin

Thank you for taking the time to review, I really do appreciate it!

I love that her emotional reaction to Spike being alive is JOY.  If she did mean that ILY as he burned to ash she SHOULD feel joy first and foremost not anger like in so many fic's or ambivalence as in the comics.  Anything less as the first response would prove his belief that she didn't mean it IMHO.

extra special side effects of Willow’s resurrection spell.  My guess is she is immortal now.

Yeah I keep hearing, "It's just Spike" in my head from so many mouths if Buffy did grieve openly.  They just did not get them or him.

I really like Andrew and you did him justice here.

Everyone else has already pointed out the utter brilliance of Dawn's observation that Buffy could take on monsters without batting an eye but when it came to matters of the heart...not so much.

Oh Angel you will never change.  You are the dog with the bone.  You don't want it but will let it go to waste by preventing any other dog from getting so much as a lick.  He hasn't really wanted Buffy since he slept with her!  Love how he's trying to make her jealous (marking territory or trying). “I just wanted you to know that I moved on. I’m not waiting anymore.” Boo Hoo ... not! He's being petty using the words Andrew said Buffy had said to give to him and to Spike back in Rome.

And I wouldn’t approach Illyria if I were you. She’s a god.”  Good way to stop her from asking any questions that would clarify what Illyria actually meant. Or tap into the inner Fred memories that would let Buffy know how Angel spent all that time (and GOD did it tick me off watching) undermining Spike's confidence in himself.  The amount of time he downplayed Spike's accomplishments (even the fact he had a soul!) to the others and so on.  Nearly every encounter with Spike saw Angel tearing down his self esteem, planting seed of doubt about Spike's place in Buffy's life. He started before Spike even got his body back!  He had all that time to undermine him and he did relentlessly.

I really hope Dawn knocks some sense in her!  She had it right at the start...Spike loved until HE is the one kicked to the curb and even then he still loves.  There would be no moving on, not from his love for her!  He literally remade himself for the sake of her.

I hope she knocks Angel's teeth in before this is done.

Excellent first chapter.  No way to tell there was no Beta as far as I can see.  Looking forward to more.

So much this. I cannot actually imagine her really being apathetic, or ambivalent, or freaking angry to learn that Spike came back, not if she loved him. Happy but hiding it? Sure. But actually not happy? Nope.

"My guess is she is immortal now" I'm not telling. But I wasn't exactly subtle, was I?wink

I'm glad you liked my Andrew, he's one of my favorite 'minor' characters. I had fun writing him.

Angel is a manipulative bastard. He won't get his comeuppance in the way that I know everyone wants, but I'm hoping that you'll be satisfied nonetheless. In any case, he doesn't get the girl, so there's that, haha

Thank you for your review, I truly loved reading it heart

Angel is an world class wanker. I hope Buffy brakes his nose. I can't wait for the next chapter. Love it.

Author's Response on May 05, 2016 11:04pm

God, isn't he? I'm afraid Buffy'd rather snog Spike than touch Angel's nose, even with her fist. He gets a bit worse before he gets better though.

Spike is hiding in his bedroom upstairs. Big insecure coward. Angel's a jerk, but he maybe kinda a little is not a jerk by the end. I am glad you love Illyria, her fake plant staring amused me, haha.

Omg Angel is such a liar!! He manipulated Spike into not going to see Buffy by twisting all of his insecurities (and boy does he have a lot of them, especially where Angelus and Angel are concerned) and manipulated Buffy into not searching Spike out by making her think there was someone else, that he did not love or want her anymore. How dare you Angel!! I am so angry with him oh my goodness. What is going to happen that proves that Angel is a big fat liar? How will Buffy and Spike be reunited?

I like that Buffy in her grief has become distant from those she used to be close to. Giles and Willow are obviously still chasing power and Buffy never wanted that. She is the most powerful and experienced slayer on the ENTIRE planet, but the gang does.not use or acknowledge that. So typical. Anya was a kagillion years old and they treated her like a confused child. I hope that Buffy is okay with not getting the recognition that she deserves.

Andrew! I really like him in this fic. Han and Leia are a hard one to beat, but I dare say that Spuffy has a far stronger hold on my heart. wink Spock and Kirk as the other power couple was cute, and then Andrew tried to take it back, aw. I love his fancy, brave talk. It is always so endearing. I have never looked at him as loyal to Buffy before, but he really is. We always knew that he was loyal to Spike, but to see him get in trouble for trying to show Buffy the council meeting that she was not allowed to attend? He is so big hearted. All the way back when he got Dana, that was MONTHS ago, and Buffy had not been told by anyone who knew. I would be fuming, especially because Angel knows exactly how important he is to her. So does Andrew, but I am not mad at him because he kept it a secret for Spike. Angel, on the other hand, kept it a secret for himself, so that Spike could not be with HIS girl. In some ways Spike even kept it a secret because of Angel. He is so frustrating!

"You don’t bat an eye at huge nasty demons, but you’re all freaked out by seeing the guy you love?" Perfectly sums up Buffy, lol! We did not see much of Dawn here, but what I did see I liked. She defended that of course Buffy is allowed to miss and grieve for Spike, she misses him to, she is right there to see Spike again, she is picking on Buffy while being there for her, she is leaving to go talk to the other girls but you know that she will be right back. I wonder what Dawn will have to say about this new information Angel has given? Will she call his bull?

I love the way you wrote this story. It flows so well, and the dialogue fit the characters so well. I did not feel like I was reading a story, I felt like I was watching it. That is such a great thing that not many authors can do. A lot happened in a short time but it was not too much, it all made sense and worked well and you have just done such a great job!

Vi!!! I am so happy to see her, and in such a good role as far as the slayers go! At least she had sense enough to call Buffy about Spike! Does Spike remember or hold any endearment towards and of the baby slayers in this fic, particularly Vi? I wonder. How is Spike going to feel about any of this? Does he know that Buffy is here, or is Angel manipulating that too? Is he going to send Spike on some crazy mission to keep him away from Buffy but say that it is so tgat he does not hage to help with the apocalypse clean up? What is going to happen?!

This story is very good, and I can tell that you put so much effort into it. I never, ever, ever would have known that you did not have a beta, and I think that is because of how obvious the genuine care is in every line. The pieces of yourself that you invested into this story jump out at me and cause the whole reading experience to be even more enjoyable. Thank you so much for putting so much into this fanfic.

Ilyria has survived this battle, no surprise. Spike is her pet, poor Spike always belongs to some woman. I wonder what she thought of this woman that was upset by her relationship with Spike. I wonder if she figured out that Buffy thought it was romantic. Did she call Buffy the one because she is the true slayer, or because she is the one that Spike and Angel are obsessed with? I can not wait to find out. There are so many things that I want to see, want to know, want to read. Ah, I need more and more! I am loving this story so much!!!

Side note, do you think Ilyria's affection is from Fred, or that it stems from Fred and grew larger and different in Ilyria? I think the latter. Would be cool to see the extent of that closeness here, especially since Buffy believes her to be the new woman or replacement.

When Spike sees Buffy again, is he going to fall all over her or be distant like he tried to be by avoiding her? Wil all of his doubts melt away when Buffy is happy to see him, or will her fear and jealousy cause her to hide her emotions which in turn proves all of Spike's insecurities true and he also hides from her? There are so many possibilities!! So many ways that this could go, and I know that you will do a great job with it and that I will love every moment.

*Falls down dead*shockedsquee

Wow. Thank you. I'm a little terrified that I might let you down lol.

I kind of feel like the scoobies never quite appreciated anyone around them--not Anya, not Tara, not even themselves to some degree. I have read sooo many post Chosen/post NFA fics where Buffy remains close to some or all of her friends, and I've liked a lot of them, but I've always wondered if she would ever let go of the need to please them.

Squee! I'm glad you liked Andrew. I tried to keep him true to character with all his overblown drama intact, and I giggled to myself with the power couple thing--I'm glad it translated well.

I'm sorry to say that Vi only has a couple of small appearances left, and that Spike gets zero interaction with her.  sad2 He shows up in chapter two, but, well, neither he nor Buffy are great at communicating with each other.... I'm afraid I'm pretty mean to them. Mostly to Buffy. But he'll make it up to her in the end ;)

As for Illyria, it has always been my take that Fred provided a seed of affection, for both Wes and for Spike, but it grew and changed with Illyria (especially with regard to Spike). Unfortunately, she's just about had enough in this story (you'll have to wait until the last chapter to see her again), and she's tried to withdraw from humanity in general.

I hope that you like the rest of this story. It really is something that I have loved, and I hope it continues to entertainheart

You don’t bat an eye at huge nasty demons, but you’re all freaked out by seeing the guy you love?

If ever there was a line that seemed to sum up Buffy so very well, that would be it.  Matters of the heart always did cause her more issues than the next demon of the week.

And wow... you don't pull any punches on Angel being a complete and total wanker (to steal a Spike word since the words I would have used would not be rated properly for a review).

Looking forwards to the next chapter.  Thank you for sharing.

Ack- Angel you twit. (okay- I feel better now).

pursue a friendship with The Immortal- oh, interesting, as is the implication of what the "side-effect" of Willow's spell is. I'm not surprised Buffy would push away from her friends and Watcher. Buffy has never been really allowed to mourn, and after Sunnyvale is destroyed I can't believe she'd just be fine. Everything she's known for seven years is gone, along with her main support system (Spike), not to mention the loss of yet someone else she loves.

Yeah. But what if he’s not?- Poor insecure Buffy! Spike's going to have some explaining to do...

“Because you deserve the normal life that you always wanted.” ARRRGHHH. Angel KNOWS she can't have a truly normal life, it's a ploy to keep her perpetually waiting for him, just one more way to control her. And here, when she calls him on it, he deliberately tries to hurt her by rubbing Nina in her face. I love that it backfires on him because Buffy's so over him that she's just happy he's found someone.

Pain blossomed in Buffy’s chest,- I feel so bad for Buffy, and Angel is such a jerk! Illyria herself is great and I can envision her and her "Why does this distress you?" line perfectly. I think Illyria is not going to be happy when she figures out how Angel is using her. I also cracked up a little over what she tells Buffy about Spike- because of course Buffy would take her words to mean something completely different than what Illyria does. It's funny- but also heartbreaking.

Spike needs to show up soon and I hope Angel gets his by the end of the story!

Great start and I can't wait to read the rest!

Thank you so much for the review! "It's funny- but also heartbreaking." I am so glad that translated, it's exactly what I was going for. I'm afraid there's a touch more angst to get through, but we'll be seeing Spike in the next chapter. I don't know that he won't put his foot in it though, because. Spuffy. They don't always communicate all that well haha. Happy endings are my friends, though ;)

It's nice seeing Buffy be so happy over the news that Spike was back, but of course she was worried over the fact that he never contacted her. The fact that she has drifted apart from her old friends. It's good that she is on good terms with Dawn though.

We can see that Angel is doing some big manipulation of Buffy, he's not a good person in this story, he's well aware that Spike hasn't moved on.

Author's Response on May 05, 2016 10:32pm

I'm afraid that I just can't write Angel as a good person--I love his character, but he makes such a great Spuffy antagonist haha. Thank you for leaving feedback, I appreciate it greatly biggrin

Angel is now, always has been, and will forever be, AN ASS!    If he can't have Buffy, he doesn't want anyone else to have her.     Angel KNOWS Spike still lives Buffy, and Angel also knows (because of Angel's lies), that Spike believes that Buffy has moved on, and is in love with the Immortal.   Angel NEEDS a royal beat-down, and soon!

Author's Response on May 05, 2016 10:29pm
