Wow, you are so clever, making this work, and for it to be romantic and so funny. Love how Hot Guy is only ever just "Hot Guy". Love how Will sees the Slayer in Sal. And love that Cordy and Liam got to know each other more and that there was something real there (because, hell, there was in the show, and, as with Spuffy, the relationship was treated like shit!) Often wonder how Hot Guy manages to deal with the sex god vampire role and his real self. Because I imagine he's "performing" as such at cons as well as onscreen.

Author's Response on January 24, 2021 05:35pm

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. I first began writing in the YA category and high school fics are my guilty pleasure, to read and write. I know what you mean about them performing at cons, even though supposedly they are themselves, outside of the role. The reality is they are still "on".

I wrote a series of novels (original fics) where one of the characters is a performer who is quite successful in his field, and that issue comes up a lot and has a profound effect on his marriage, relationship with kids and other performers. He sometimes has a hard time knowing if he's "on" or if he's just being him. And his wife has a hard time with it too. Ultimately, the marriage doesn't survive, and I think a great deal of the stress came from never really knowing who they were dealing with. He had to be "on" to make the money to raise a family, and even offstage, he was rehearsing, choreographing, schmoozing with donors, etc etc.

It was a nice opportunity, in this story, to work with Cordy. I don't write her very often, and I wanted to explore that combination of haughty and genuine.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment! flowers

Aww, I love your alternate universe. It's really sweet to see them as teenagers and dressing up and running around.

Author's Response on March 28, 2019 07:09pm

I got my start in writing, writing YA stories about kids in high school, and I still love to write high school stories from time to time, so this was a real indulgence for me. Sadly the images that went with it got removed when photobucket did it's thing, and I haven't gotten around to reattaching them (if I even still have them all) from my computer files. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I thought this version of Spike/Will was kinda sweet, and I really haven't used Cordelia much in stories so it was nice to have a little fun with her character as well. So many crayons in the box of Buffy characters, and so much fun to color the stories with different combinations of them!

Interesting idea with william being a spike fan and vampire wannabe as opposite to being a punk fan as mostly ..

Sweet scene between the two of them at the fountain.. your story has a lovely mix of funny moments, fluff and dry humor..

“Congratulations,” Will said, he was trying to learn the fine art of appropriate compliments, and it was becoming clear to him he did no better with men than women."😊

"First I’ll have to put it on my bucket list.” “You have an ACTUAL bucket list?” “Spreadsheet, Excel, very handy,” the red haired girl assured her. - that would be a very willow thing to do  😅

“So basically you’ve sold your soul to Santa Claus to dress like an anime princess." 😅

She thought about Riley and was out in five minutes." 😊

Author's Response on January 12, 2017 01:25pm

Spike is such a fun character to play around with. In different iterations I like to pull out one or two aspects of his character and play them up and see where it takes me. So here he's slightly nerdy but since he's channeling a cool character...kinda cool too.

I wonder if an excel bucket list is even more satisfying to scratch items off of than a regular one. There could be pie charts and bar graphs and different colors....

I'm glad you liked the fountains scene. I really liked that one too. He's so sweet and hopeful. And yup, another poke at Riley...he just keeps giving us opportunities in this one. I don't usually character bash, but I trashed him pretty badly in this fic. Shame on me.

I love getting up in Sal's head. Even her practical side is fun! I'm so happy to see all the smilies in your reviews. The whole point of this story was to have a good old fashioned romp, and I really just let loose. Glad that you are enjoying the ride too.

Sorry to see that spike's and buffy's moment ended kind of abrupt.. damn riley! ..

Author's Response on January 11, 2017 04:06pm

Cons really bring out interesting aspects of people. I love Willow surprising everyone, including herself. You are going to be saying Damn Riley a lot more, and probably even not as nice things. He gets plenty of boo hiss moments in this story.

Loved the interaction between spike and buffy, the realistic mixture of weird and exciting moments and feelings generated by attraction and spending time with a stranger..

“Take your pick,” he said. He really was sort of sweet in a totally take charge, pull her out of the crowd, sort of  way." 😊

"Sal frowned slightly, there was sort of a girl code that you didn’t eat as much as you really wanted in front of a guy because you didn’t want to come across as some chow hound. But she really did want more of that pizza." - loved this honest and straight forward scene.. good for her.. going after bites of the third slice of pizza brought them closer, after all. .😊

And boy i definitely did not expect that last move from her 😅

Author's Response on January 11, 2017 04:01pm

She couldn't resist. (and neither could I, I ran my hand over him vicariously) Sal is such a fun version of Buffy. I got to give her some snark, but not too much. I wish this had happened to me at a con. I guess I'd better keep going and see if I meet my Spike soul mate...

"Seriously Will, if there's anything else, just tell me now. Don't surprise me later, when I'm driving or something. Come clean buddy. Do vampires have an underwear fetish. Are you wearing a bra?”😅😅

Author's Response on January 11, 2017 03:58pm

I got my start writing young adult fiction and I LOVE any opportunity to write a story that takes place during teen years and includes the wacky dynamics of High School. This was one of those stories that basically wrote itself. I went to a con, came home and this one just came flowing out. With these characters the banter pretty much takes care of itself.

I was really surprised and happy at the positive response this one got. It was my first all human BTVS story, and well...it is kind of wacky, but people got into the spirit of it. It was fun finding photos to go along with it as well.

Glad you're enjoying it, and I appreciate you taking the time to review. This story really is dear to my heart.

Author's Response on May 29, 2016 06:15pm

Thank you so much. It means a lot to me that you take the time to review and to tell me what you like about the story/writing. My aim is to have the story and the craft support one another and one never have one dominate at the expense of the other.

Both of these stories were a bit of a risk in the sense that I was reaching past what I know is "safe" Spuffy, and I didn't know if I had the craft to do it well, or if my stories would find an audience.

In my own life experience, I find life to be interesting enough, funny enough, painful enough etc etc that it can stand on it's own merit. I try to reflect that in my writing. It's fiction, but it's also true.

Yeees! This has been so much fun to follow. Harmony's revenge was hilarious. Totally mean, but hilarious. And lucky Sal got to prove that the rumor was fake. I kind of want to see a Cordy/Liam sequel. They're too cute! Dorks in love <3

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. Glad you liked Harmony's revenge. I couldn't see her bowing out gracefully she needed to have her moment since she didn't get the guy!

At this point I don't think I could do Cordy and Liam justice. I haven't watched all of Angel, and I need to see more of their progression and interaction to work out their relationship once they go to LA, but maybe in time...

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story!

Author's Response on April 24, 2016 06:39pm

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! It was a fun piece to write and I HAD to do something to commemorate my own meeting with Hot Guy and my own first con and this is what sprang from that!

I truly feel like I never aged past 17, and I felt like these characters were myself and my friends, and I really enjoyed working with them. I guess I'm just like Sal, Will saw her, grabbed her hand and the adventure began.

I feel like the idea of the con and these characters took my hand and we were off and running! I wrote this piece as my personal challenge for NaNoWriMo, and I wrote it in  a mad rush the week my grandson was on his Spring Break and staying with his dad. I just wrote and wrote, and it was easy to do because I couldn't wait to see what happened next!

And while I wrote I had Hot Guy's music playing (acoustic concert from the con I went to!) and my autographed shirt (now a pillow) beside me. Very nice inspiration.

I'm glad you enjoyed this little romp!
