He couldn't escape the thought, that when she wanted something, needed something...she came to him. She stepped out of her cozy warm house, away from the suffocating embrace of her friends, and she came to him. She. Came. To. Him.
Poor Spike. So contented by his illusion that she wants him, not just his body. It's a slow, slow development.
I really enjoyed this vignette. Buffy's despair and Spike's hope mixing in a way that can only be toxic to both, but so much what they need right now. Lots of excellent detail.
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. This scene has always haunted me. It makes me think of how sadly tragic it is for people who come together at the wrong time or under the wrong circumstances, when if things were just a little different it might have been wonderful. Desperation can bring people together, but too often it's a head on collision.
Woah, that ending there was beautiful.
and she was alive.
thank you for this little bit of missing scene within the scene. It was perfect and exactly what I think the writers had in mind. d84;a039;
Thank you so much. I am really touched that you are taking the time to read all these stories and comment. I really appreciate it! This is a scene that I really love on the show and I'm glad that I could do it justice.

This is an amazing exploration, analysis. Love it. Couple of minor errors, biggest one that I I don't think Buffy encounters the uber vamps until the next season.
Didn't realize I referenced uber vamps in this one. Wasn't the master an uber vamp? I don't know if he was technically a Turok Han, but he sort of looked like one.
Glad you enjoyed this one. I liked watching Spike from across the room. Sometimes it's nice to be a fly on the wall. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Thank you so much! Glad you liked it. I wanna see him barefoot in the moonlight....sigh
I've imagined this scene many times trying to decide how they got to that point, I like your take on it.
Thank you, and thanks for taking the time to read and review!

Wow. You have so perfectly caught the nuance here. I can picture the scene in my head, in painstakingly slow motion, and my throat is closed with unshed tears. Lovely. Absolutely, distressingly lovely.
I am reading this immediately following a shoutbox post I just made on the subject of betas. I said that I need a beta to address clarity. Meaning that I want to make sure that my writing is actually conveying what my intention is. Your reviews are giving me exactly that. Letting me know that what I was feeling, thinking, and hoping to share with my readers is coming across. That is tremendously valuable to me, and your reviews are a real gift, letting me know if I am on the right track or not.

I love that scene and you captured it perfectly! Great job!
Thank you for the review. Glad you liked it. It's always risky to take on such a powerful scene and be true to the characters etc. I hope I accomplished a bit of that, and glad it reached others.

I totally agree with you. That kiss came out of Buffy's moodiness and was more real than any they shared before or after. It was desperate, but quietly so and not violently as it became when their affair commenced later. I didn't really think there was any more canon fic that would surprise me or reveal something new so this was unexpectedly delightful. I loved it! Fabulously done!
Thank you so much for the review. I'm glad you liked it, and that you felt it did honor to this moment in their relationship. I think there was so much potential for them still at this point, before it took such a dark twist and spiraled out of control.
The way we could follow Buffy's thoughts through this chapter was done really well. The way her thoughts changed because of what she saw at the moment was just like in reallity. Buffy was not in a good mood every thought followed a neagative way, no matter if it was about herself, her friends, Spike or even strangers. In the end she wanted to lose herself, get free from the thoughts and then was the kiss.
Thank you. I always wondered what was going on behind Buffy's blank, nearly paralyzed expression.

I personally think that is the hottest kiss in the Spuffy canon and you illustrated it very nicely!
Thanks! I agree. Hottest kiss. If I could choose any kiss in the world to be part of, this is it. Swoon.

Maybe they should live their own damn lives. And the choir yelled, "Amen!"
OH Buffy you are so blind. You tell yourself that "Bad" can never change when you've watched it in Spike for a couple of years. Don't you remember how he took Glory's torture to protect Dawn, for you? You said you'd never forget. You still see Riley as good in spite of plenty of evidence otherwise. Do you still yearn for a "normal" guy that clearly didn't do it for you? You are too deep in the depression to see what is right in front of you.
Poor Spike fully expecting the beat down yet willing to take what little she will give to him. He's the only one who hasn't demanded from her at this point and she hands him confusion. He's really trying to make right choices but all the mixed signals makes it nearly impossible to choose correctly.
This is one very sad tale. The writing is lovely but it makes me nearly as depressed as Buffy. Pretty on par with S6 and in character all the way.
Kathleen
Thanks so much for your review and input. Much appreciated. I'm glad the confusion came through. I felt it was important to get into both characters heads since they are both in such a muddle. I also liked to see how they were interpreting the other's actions and feelings
