Loved it! The future holds all kinds of possibilities with Dru, Darla, and Angelus together again-most of them terrifying-but his family did come for Spike. From a kind of loyalty, but probably from as much or more of possessiveness and anger that someone else should take and hurt him in Darla and Angelus's cases I imagine, but they came. The Scourge together again though I suspect Spike will never be able to be as he was and his future can go in so many different ways I think. And yet I find Riley, the scientists, and surprisingly to a slightly smaller extent the members of the council there, to be the real monsters of this story.[Report This]
I only started reading fan fiction a couple of years ago, so I missed this when it was first posted. I wish I had found it then! WOW! Great story! The hopelessness of the situation leaps off the page! Please tell me you have more to add to this!?[Report This]
This was great - very atmospheric and creepy/scary.
The lack of reaction/the fascination with Angelus by the scientist is... ugh... too believable. Those Initiative folks are SO CREEPY.
I liked that Buffy was honest enough to admit she didn't know if she loved Spike, but she knew he loved her. All the stuff between her and Spike was heartbreaking.
Riley having to get his own back at Spike and wanting to see him lose hope/hiding from Spike that Buffy and co were being coerced? My poor heart. Riley, you're an asshole of the highest order.
I loved that this started in media res and is just a snapshot of a larger story. I think it would make a GREAT opening chapter, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as a oneshot... in an angsty, depressing kind of enjoyment way... ya hear me?
Good stuff[Report This]
Good Lord! If my heart could beat it would break my chest!
Rescue him Buffy! Rescue him now!
Yep pretty much. I wrote this in anger for how Spike was mistreated in S6. I think it shows. I love Buffy but part of me wanted a scene where she had it rubbed in her face what she had and what she lost--while at the same time she admitted to herself that she cared for Spike.
I also wanted Spike to have someone in his corner. And who better than his psychotic family? Lol. Thanks for reading and commenting!
Breaking his heart and leaving him empty... poor Spike. Circumstances always did stand in the way of his chances with Buffy. This isn't happy but it seems realistic. What a mess. The council and the initiative really have no clue of what they did in their own arrogance and stupidity.
I hope that the Scoobies are not the ones to suffer because of their idiocy.
Great tale.[Report This]
I would love to know more :)
Oh what a rabbit hole this story would be...I have more in my head but too much on my plate to hit this up now. Maybe someday? lol. Thanks for your interest and comments. I love the fanged four. Who knows. I could really get in the mood for more of my fave vamp family
horrifying. fascinating. amazing. As I read, I felt as Buffy must have, wanting to scream but powerless to stop the inevitable. wow. what an astounding story! sad and bleak, but so heart felt and gut wrenching!
Wow, that's awesome! So many reactions :D I had this scene playing over and over in my head and just had to get it down. If this were a movie I was watching, those would be my reactions too. I'm glad I could get it across in words. Thanks nojiri!
Why?!? Why would you do that to me...? That actually hurt to read :( (but it was also fantastic)
Thanks! And sorry for the pain :P I was angstatic over S6 Buffy when I thought this up. Poor spike is so mistreated for so much of that season. I mean, they hurt each other, but Buffy was the only one who had loved ones boost her up again. Spike got left in the dirt. This is my 'Spike has loved ones too!' story.
I blab D: thanks for the read and review!
Oh man, I love your style! Brief sentences, stakkato-style, clear and yet capable of conveying so much that is lying underneath! Impressive!
I loved the family reunion! I always thought it was sad that we got so few minutes with them all together, and those four completely different charactersthey formed such a fantastic family with such an interesting dynamic! Angelus was a treat, and so were Dru and Darla. Thanks for giving us this!
Spike's conflict is palpable. On the one side his family, that he mostly (except Dru) resents or even hates, but that is coming to his rescue nonetheless; on the other the woman he loves, that he wants to join even now, chiples; that he would ditch his family for again in a heartbeat. It makes the difference between him and the other vampires all the more visible, glaringly so. His pain was heartbreaking, mostly because it seems so final. You made me want to scream at him, tell him that Buffy also came to his rescue.
But it's not only the fab four that you caught so well. Everyone gets a little light shone on them, and can show how very well they are drawn. For some reason I especially liked Wes and Giles' comments, brief as they were, and Xander's weird noise.
I adored the parallels you drew between unsouled Spike and Angelus, but especially those for Spike and his improper behaviour to both sides.
I would very much like to read more of this!
What a great review! Sorry it took so long to respond. I completely agree about the fanged four. I would watch a show of just them. Or a movie. Vignette. Anything! So interesting, especially when you throw Buffy and the Scoobs and Angels crew in there. You think you know someone...until you meet their family! Lol.
My frustration with S6 became this. Luckily, I've had time to break it down and understand that season diff. And now I can also read your lovely fic for some good resolved S6 ^.^ thanks for your comments!
Interesting little ficlet, I'd really like to read a continuation if you ever feel struck by it again!
I love the thought of Spike's reverse situation, being warned off of fraternizing with humans because of their unsavory influence! Darla delivered her slightly mom-ish lines with perfect flair and patented scorn for Spike. Plus, it's a good reminder that Spike was going against his nature by working with the Scoobies and loving Buffy - both of which are things he shouldn't have been able to do. Consequently, it was nice to see Buffy contemplating the differences between unsouled Angel and unsouled Spike, particularly the difference that she notices between their eyes (which are, after all, windows to the soul!)
Your Drusilla was particularly well-drawn and frightening. The image of her waltzing with the thralled soldier is haunting!
Enjoyed this, thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Just a scene I couldn't get out of my head. I love the idea of the fanged four together again: I think it would be really shocking for the Scoobies/LA gang to see their dynamic
Great imagination and family reunion. The humanity is in danger with the wiriwind reunited. Spike who is reluctant to follow his family, because he loves buffy. Would like to see you spinning the tale further, who is the new brother, how will the others escape the initiative[Report This]
A big gathering of people, but I really did like the scenario. Spike getting rescued by his vampire family was a joy to see. Darla said the family had grown, must mean they kept Connor then. He's probably the reason for Angelus.[Report This]
Very, very good! Yes, I want to read more of this!!! Sounds like Conner was born with no trouble, and Angel had his 'happy' that way. Riley didn't seem that unreasonable to me; he seemed just like the Riley I remember from the show: stubborn, self-important and oblivious to real danger. Buffy, as usual, was an idiot and kept her feelings for Spike secret. So secret, that neither Spike nor Buffy knew! And now, with the Whirlwind together again, it is far too late. . . .or is it??? I would definitely like to read more of this, so I will keep this as a favorite (just in case), and will check back for updates. Thanks for this!![Report This]
Compelling but I really reallay want this to continue. I'm hoping you decide to continue this one a bit further.
My brain only seems capable of spitting out really complicated, convuluted plots...I actually have more to this, not written yet, but I'm afraid to dig in. It could get pretty long. I kind of wanted to see how this was received first. o.o
