Nooo 😢 I'm not ready for this to run out. Absolutely fantastic story, so rich in feels and impossible to put down. Adding to my bookshelf just in case you ever return with an update (what happened to the other scoobs?). But I enjoyed this so much, thank you 💙[Report This]
Oof. Finally finished reading this, so good. Poor Spike, poor everyone. I can’t imagine living in a world like that. But whenever I watch zombie movies or play games with zombies, I always think I’d probably one of the first of many who would die. I’m not strong, I can’t run, and I’m pretty much useless in such situations. It’s a good thing they’ve got each other. I hope if you’re still around you’ll continue this someday. But if not, oh well. I just hope it all works out in the end.[Report This]
I knew this was unfinished when I started...but I started reading anyway, and omg, I'm so upset that there's not more! But, I'm really glad that I read what there is because this is an amazing fic. I will be keeping it on my bookshelf just incase you ever return to it. I have loved this![Report This]
I still find myself coming back to this time and time again. I really hope that they found their home at the end of the world. Ive been out of touch of with myself and had some crap going on for a while, and that bullet dislodging itself and the symbol of healing and Joyce and Spike... it's a lot. It makes me warm and sad all at once, but your writing always did that.
Missing your words, Nell.[Report This]
A really well written, compelling story. I loved the way Buffy's perception of and feelings for Spike gradually changed as she interacted with him under such extraordinary and terrible circumstances. Removing the other Scoobies from the mix allowed a very tight, intense, almost claustrophobic focus which was wholly appropriate for the events of the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I'm sorry you didn't manage to finish it, for whatever real-life reason.[Report This]
It is such a shame that this story wasn't completed. Perhaps you will do us all a solid and finish this story? When I first read the description I thought "Well this is going to be silly" I saved it anyway because well even in 2018 I'm still a Spuffy fiend. I was pleasantly surprised to be hooked on where the story would go from the very beginning. I certainly didn't see that coming. This is definitely a different kind of Buffy story but that is what is making this so enjoyable. It could also be that I long for a good TWD episode. Alas I don't see that happening.
You have a gem of an idea here and there are many things that can still happen to continue this story and keep us all glued to updates. I do hope the Scoobies as well as Angel's team to make it out okay and at some point are reunited with Buffy and her crew. Well maybe not Angel but the other I would be okay with them joining up again too. I hope the character death listed was Dru, or I would except Angel or Riley even. :) I do have hopes for the Scoobies after all they have Ripper and Red with the mojo. Xander is always willing to jump into a fight and I can see Oz doing all he needs to do to protect his lady love. I would be great to see you get Buffy and her group to a safe location (for now anyway it is an apocalypse after all) and then focus on what the Scoobies have been up to since it all hit the fan.
Well....you don't need me to give you ideas [feel free to us it though ;)]. Anyhoo just wanted to say how much I enjoyed this story and I hope you will revisit it again and bring us all a little more joy. Thank for posting your genius![Report This]
Please update!! I need you to continue. I love this fic so much. I am not one for zombie fics but this one is one in a million and I need to know what happens next! Please have mercy and update! Please![Report This]
And this is why reading old WIP can be a wonderful endeavour. Definitely a good use of my reading hours. Utterly gorgeous. Really love the slow burn of Buffy coming to see Spike with clear eyes, and the final payoff of Joyce's epiphany. A fabulous character study of Spike throughout.
I've been breezing through this fic leaving only likes but I think you deserve at least one review from me (honestly, you deserve 16 but my hands wouldn't appreciate it). This story is absolutely amazing! It's getting added to my favorites right after I finish this review.
This is a startlingly original story and concept for the world of Buffy. I've love how you've taken the concept of zombies (and the horror genre) and tied them in with canon - I can completely see the Initiative working on a project like that biological weapon and then willingly slaughter uninfected as a way to prevent their mishap from getting out. And then the government as a whole violently tries to handle the outbreak. Gosh, the depth and weight of this story gives me as much (if not more) feeling as World War Z (the book) did.
I adore how Buffy and Spike's relationship has grown, as well as Spike's familial relationship with Dawn and Joyce. It's beautiful and claws at my heartstrings. How you handle Spike's person, his love and care for his family, is profound. He is more than a monster, yet you accept the monster that's within him. Buffy's growth as a person, understanding Spike and the grays of the world, is unparalleled. You've managed to realistically point Buffy in the direction that she ended up going in the end of canon, without bringing her down to the level of abuse that she's committed against Spike and herself.
Gosh, I have so many ideas and predictions for this story. I'm terribly worried about the rest of the Scoobies, especially since you have the "character death" tag, but I still have the hope that they are strong as a team and can hold out until they finally meet up with Buffy and family.
I'm so happy that Dawn and Joyce survived the encounter with the men that attacked (and highly appreciate how you compared those men to Spike - beautiful!), but I'm worried that something will happen in the future... That comment that one of the soldier boys made in a previous chapter made me think that Buffy and Spike might find out that women are being held as sex slaves. And Spike won't take chances with the girls when there are guns involved.
I feel like there won't be a cure found, but that this is a survival story - the characters will be holding out until the infection is contained and (hopefully) exterminated. The world would never be the same, but they'll be holding on to the future. Oh, and I wanted to say that I was super worried that Spike would turn into a biter without his ring, like the infection was dormant. I was so happy to find out that wasn't the fact!
I'm such a fool for happy (or as happy as possible) endings, so I'm hopeful that Buffy and Spike will be an established couple in the end. I'm a sucker for babies too, so (considering the demolished population) I would never disagree with Spike landing the Shanshu or the ring giving him the ability to start a family of his own with Buffy by the end. ;)
Overall, your story is a masterpiece! I hope that you're able to come back to it some day, if you still have interest and are able. I know that a ton of readers have remained loyal and will follow this fic to the ends of the Earth. I know I would. :) You're an amazing writer and deserve to know it![Report This]
This story isn't bad solstice. If it was a completed work I would even consider finishing it. The main reason for abandoning the project right here is that there just isn't any compelling reason to finish it. Buffy and Spike are going to get together, they will spend the rest of their time on earth killing zombies and keeping Joyce and Dawn safe. There is no tension, even if you were to take Spikes ring from him...there still wouldn't be any real drama. There is never going to be a 'cure' for people to stop turning, even if there was....The Scoobies will never be thwarting evil on the hellmouth again. Baring any time magic being invoked there is no putting this genie back in its bottle. So where dose that leave this story? With no suspense from the Walkers, because really? with Spike and Buffy fighting side by side they can hold out against an excessively large herd of zombies. With Spike's ring he could literally go out and just butcher them with a spear for hours and eventually clear out arenas worths of undead without Buffy, Dawn, or Joyce 'needing' to risk life and limb. Get Buffy some body armor to keep from being scratched and all you have is a 'will they' 'wont they' get together story... and lets face it, this is Buffy and Spike. The only real question is what kind of angsts-y Dawson's creek teen drama chapters its going to take before they are SO together.
If they had kept moving instead of turning back at L.A. then there could have been the ever present danger of no place they bedded down being safe. Then you could have expanded Dawn and Joyces characters. .... But this shouldn't be about griping about this story. There really isn't anything to really gripe about in this story. Yeah I'm ragging on personal dislikes but hell four months ago I would have been eating this story up with a spoon. Time changes tastes and if I find this story again I might like it. So Thanks for putting it out there even If I don't personally enjoy it now, time will move on and It might just be my cup of tea some time down the road. Thanks again for being brave and sharing it with us.[Report This]
More!!! Now please!!! Pleeeeaae!!! Love it and need more. Please feel free to message me if u need a hand/wanna let Me know it's updated ;) I love your depictions of the characters.. Amazing. Crack on love! X[Report This]
- wow. i recently found your work & have been reading through them, starting with the shorter, completed stories. you're very good. you write beautiful prose and with it reveal fascinating, real characters. but then i started "A Home at the End of the World" and could not stop reading. i stayed up till three AM to finish it, compelled by the story you spin. it's a disturbing, grounded plot populated by these characters that i already love & know, but that are now fleshed out in a way that is realer than the show could ever be. you took a caricature and knitted together the skin & bones, the heart & mind, then breathed a soul into it. all while writing in concise, evocative language. i am a wee bit sad that it's not completed, but it does currently sit at a moment of some resolution. i am so happy to have read this. thank you for writing!
I just reread this again. I have no idea how many times I've read this now. It's still so gripping. My heart speeds up and I get nervous when they're nervous. This is definitely my absolute favorite story ever. Seriously.[Report This]
So this idea is brilliant -- I don't even know why there wasn't a zombie apocalypse in the actual tv show. And it's the perfect opportunity for SPUFFY. AND you write so well it's just a pleasure. Thank you![Report This]
