That was a hell of a thanksgiving! You made the drunk parents hilarious! And that was some super hot claim action! I also really like the dynamic & characterization of Buffy & Spike in this. They are different from most of the fics I’ve read. Buffy is so much less cruel and she’s more open & understanding much earlier on than in the show obviously but it’s so nice to see. She actually appreciates him & gives him credit for his hard work and changes without a soul which is also nice for a change. Ready to see what Christmas holds now[Report This]
I was going to leave notes for you as I read through this, but then I would hit the end of a chapter and just have to know what came next and now here we are at the end and all I have to say is I love this.
I love how soft and mundane and cozy and homey and perfect this is. Like, there's no apocalypse, no big bad (other than our fave Big Bad) and yet it is still overwhelmingly perfect for these two. The grocery store being possessed! The petty squabbles! Spike being voluntold to help with dinner and going along with it cheerfully while telling Joyce he was forced against his will to help! The fact that Hank, that useless waste of a parental figure, showed up because his younger girlfriend came to her senses and now he's trying to bluster his way into Buffy's life like nothing is wrong and everyone sees how trash he is (of course he's a Bible-thumping, judgmental Republican now; what else could he be?) and that is the worst thing that happens here. The fact that everyone destroys Spike's delicious meal and he's mostly concerned for Buffy, always Buffy, Buffy who tries so hard and wants things perfect and so rarely gets what she wants and Spike will be damned if he can't make some of her dreams come true. And I love that they've been slowly getting to this point of dating and being in love and claiming and keeping each other for all of eternity, and this wonderfully terrible Thanksgiving was the final tipping point before they fully acknowledged their feelings to the other and left dinner to traumatize Buffy's entire family.
This is just so amazing, and I am in awe of your mind and your writing skills.
A much, much belated thank you. I am so happy you enjoyed this. It was an absolute treat to write and even more fun to revisit. Thank you!
