This is an interesting twist on time travel. I love it that Spike's as old as Angel now and takes no crap from him!
Also thank you so much for Spike having no soul!! I love love love that it doesn't really matter! And him thinking that he was less of an action person with the soul than he is without was very satisfying to read.
Buffy hasn't had much screen time so far but I'm sure we're at the point when she becomes a regular and I'm so looking forward to this!!
I'm curious how the story continues! Hope you do come back to it some day!
Thank you![Report This]
Re-read this because I remembered how much I was loving this story. I have 3 WIPs that have lingered for a couple of years or so so there is no way I'd complain or try to shame anyone...I know how it happens. Still one day I truly hope your muse encourages you to complete this wonderful fic. It is a pleasure to read even incomplete but I'd love to see where you were taking us.
Thanks for giving us this much in any event.
OH I so want to know what he walked in on!
Love how Reptile Boy went in this verse. Liked Callie, brave and practical girl there. Cordy was a hoot. Loved that he couldn't put a name to her but did snap to the cheerleader personae.
I really, really loved what Spike said to Giles in Buffy's defense. Glad this Giles is willing to listen, consider and learn. It seems that he also has accepted to a degree at least that Spike IS an ally. This is a really good thing! Maybe by making these sorts of changes he'll be helping Buffy as much as the big saving of her life helps.
I am delighted Spike told Buffy at least the bare bones about where he came from. She seems not to be that hung up on the soul issue but is judging him by how he chooses to act and that's a great improvement. I loved him telling a jealous Buffy that she was his "one woman" for a hundred years and would probably be for longer than that (as in forever). She appears to be happy with that thought. I think having him tell her his story and how he feels about her (added to the things he has done that shows the truth of it) are massively romantic gestures that will blow Angel out of the running. To young Buffy she's just had the ultimate in romantic heroes presented to her and even the "mysterious" Angel can't hope to compete....YAY!!
So he's leveled with her about how his memory has problems. Good thing! He needs to keep that journal close that he jotted things down in early on.
Willow is also in his corner and Xander is not obnoxious or hateful.
I like that he's having a coat made to protect from fire.
Always love having Dalton show up.
So very good! Long for more.
Dru is more lucid AND seems to have accepted that Spike belongs to Buffy. The reference to Buffy as "his Sunshine" seems to indicate she does know and appears okay with it.
Time only moves in one direction, and is quite upset to have all it’s hard work undone, That's ominous considering he's back to change all the bad stuff. Sounds like some things will almost happen in different ways such as Buffy's death. Love the reference to snake being later (Mayor?) and this is a serpent (Reptile Boy).
Love the visual of Buffy staking the tree. *giggle*. Yeah, she should have noticed Angel and Spike nearby. Good point Spike. Loved this: “You always did fancy them young and inexperienced.” The Angel in his apocalyptic future had seemingly grown out of his affection for the older Buffy and her behavior as a General. Yes that fits. Buffy sucking on a lolly at only 14 was what get Angel's attention in a big way. He really didn't care much for her "attitude" once she matured. He didn't KNOW her much less love her, not for who she was in truth...not once she stopped being the dewy eyed teen.
YAY I love how proactive Spike is being in dealing with these events in Buffy's life.
Well lots of interesting reveals in this chapter.
He does not have his soul (but he has the conditioning...maybe he DOES have it but doesn't realize it...hum). Demon blood makes him almost feral depending on the demon I'd bet...a Fyral is not too much with the thinking. The other demon blood feasts gave him big buzz and power but his brain still worked on a high level. Human blood sort of acts like Benedryl to an allergic reaction regarding the demon blood. It stabilizes as he put it.
I like his encounters with Xander, Willow and Buffy. I think they have seen that he had control enough that he didn't attack them even though clearly out of his mind. That has to go a long way towards a start of trust building. I'm glad he said what he did to Willow. Good info for the group. Glad he started to explain a bit to Buffy. She knows he's been somewhere and lived longer than the Watchers books indicate. He called it realm (loved her D&D quip) so she is probably thinking demon dimension. They are going to want to know more, especially Giles I'd bet.
Good job with crazed Dru in mid vision. She knows but also doesn't. Probably a good thing she's not full strength. I am delighted that he feels little for her. He knows she manipulates him and does not love him and that's very, very good.
YAY to him taking out the Annoying One and his minions.
Enjoyed the chapter...nothing for you to be unhappy about IMHO.
What a brilliant chapter! I love it all being Spike's POV so very much. Excellent choice on your part.
Chuckled at the mention of Firound demons (Dreamweaver has made so many types of demons head-canon to me). Felt like seeing mention of an old friend.
Love all the interactions. Giles is likely flummoxed at the encounter. Back in S2 and before the unleashing of Angelus Giles would have been more willing to learn truth from seeing Spike than later. He bought into Council teaching but was less stiff rumped about it back then. Seeing a vampire like Spike, maybe learning that Spike had gone to fight for his soul (meaning the demon wanted the soul for the love of Buffy), things of that nature would make Giles question those flawed beliefs.
LOVE the shopping trip. Had to laugh with Spike over the literal white hat. I'm glad he opted to buy it. I loved his advice to the shopgirl who reminded him a bit of Dawn. So sad that they never regained the relationship lost in canon in his previous future life. Maybe this go round they can stay close.
Loved his encounter with Joyce. I hope they bond strongly even more than in canon. Love the idea of him wanting that painting and his plans to get a job if only to kill time.
Really enjoy his decision not to let any of the bad happen this go round...no Scooby death, no Giles death or Joyce death. He's going to do more than save Buffy and help prevent the horrible world that came in his last future. He actually seems fond of them even though they weren't too nice to him in the previous go. Maybe this time they can have a better relationship.
Love him confronting Angel. I hope he tells Angel some of it such as his coming from a future time (and proving it in some way). Maybe he can get Angel to back off from Buffy or even get his cursed soul anchored. I hope he does let Angel know he has a soul of his own that he fought for. I don't want Angel working against him or turning the others against him for that matter.
Spike is going to have to decide what to do about Dru before too long. She's dangerous. It would be great if he could get Angel to take over her care and get her out of town!
I love him thinking of saving even Wes, Charles and Fred too. Nice tip of the hat to Angel S5 and their relationships.
Just a picture perfect chapter.
I know this hasn't been completed or updated in years but I am going to read all that you have posted and live in hope that one day you'll return to it and complete it. This is one of those unfinished fic's that BEG to be completed but are worthy of reading even incomplete.[Report This]
I wonder if Buffy did snap to those amber eyes and what they meant.
I love that she's interested. Maybe he'll keep her from the disaster of her relationship with Angel. That alone will improve her life and attitude.
Loving this. So well written too. Can't understand how I've not read it before.
edited...I did read the first few chapters before and lost track. I really, REALLY, enjoyed the re-read. As I say in another comment later it is so worth reading even incomplete but I would be overjoyed if your muse kickstarts and you complete this sometime. This is SO BLOODY WELL WRITTEN and the plot is wonderfully done. This is going in my favorites file on the HD as well as here even as is.[Report This]
I LOVE this opener. What a compelling start to a time travel fic.
So there's really nothing but demonic, pure demonic, even in the animal kingdom. Must be a terrible place and yet another reason for Spike to want out of there.
The old demon/witch is creepy and well written. I wonder what her plans are for Spike's blood (it may not even matter in the story anyway but it is something to contemplate). She said she wouldn't use it against him so that's a good thing at least.
I adore this story. I liked that it's being told from Spike's point of view only. His emotions ring true in his self-confident yet hesitant presence in this time. He's self-aware enough to know to take his time about things and to be truthful.
I am going to keep this story on my bookshelf in the hopes that one day you'll update. Take Care![Report This]
