Summary:

Season 4 villain Adam was based on Frankenstein’s monster, in both the idea and the moral. But I think most of us can agree that he wasn’t done very well, and is a far cry from the emotional turmoil of Frankenstein’s monster. The monster was sympathetic at the start and only turned bad due to rejection, while Adam was pretty much an emotionless bad guy right from word go. And that’s just boring.

So the challenge is to rewrite the latter half of season 4, but with a far more sympathetic Adam.

If Adam still kills Walsh, then it's an accident.

Adam has feelings and emotions, and the Scoobies teach him about morality, good and evil, love, etc. The Scoobies compare him to a newborn baby.

Must have some reference to the Nature vs. Nuture theory.

If Adam doesn't have a soul, then there must be a discussion about how a soul doesn’t make a difference. After all, a baby has no understanding of right and wrong and has to be taught.

Bonus points for parrallels between Spike and Adam, and later Adam and Faith.

Would be great if he turns dark like the original Frankenstein monster does, but this isn't a must.

No Buffy/Riley, please.

No one is born evil. Monsters are created from lived experience. In this S4 rewrite, Buffy comes face to face with two would be monsters: Spike and Adam. But is it possible that they are not as evil as they first appeared? Can a monster ever change into a man?
