After jumping through the portal in order to destroy Glor's inter-dimensional gateway, Buffy's lifeless body was not discovered broken and bent at the base of the tower. Instead, it had disappeared without a trace. Logic tells the Scoobies that nothing, not even the Slayer, could withstand such an extreme amount of energy surging through their body. 
All of them grudgingly accept this, and move on with their lives - all except one, that is. A heartbroken and listless girl, who has lost not just her big sister, but her best friend when he leapt into the portal seconds after the woman he loves.
