She doesn’t understand it at first; only that it helps that he listens, doesn’t push, and gives her a place to go to. He flirts, sure, but only to make her laugh; there’s never any real expectation that she can detect. But she knows he loves her and... Eventually the closeness they share—his kind and unexpectedly nurturing presence—leads to something more.
She wants to tell her friends, but she knows they would never understand. She doesn’t understand it herself, feeling shame even while feeling love and happiness. More to the point, telling them about Spike would mean telling them why. And that would mean telling them about heaven.
Willow knows Buffy is hiding something. And like every problem in her life now, the redhead decides the best way to solve unhappy introverted Buffy is to perform a spell. She finds one that mentions a Prince of Truth and his Advocate. It tells her, with—duh, vagueness—that Prince of Truth will help reveal all truths asked and set things to rights.
Little does our witch know that she’s asked for far more than she ever bargained for.
