In 2015, I had never seen a single episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The vague ideas I had about the plot and characters were all from reading about them in crossover fanfiction. I thought Spike was Willow's werewolf boyfriend who was in a band.

In 2016, I tried to watch the series twice, and both times got stuck in the first couple of episodes because I couldn't stand the ninety-ness of the special effects. I thought no amount of interesting vampire-slaying could compensate for outdated CGI.

In early 2017, I told a friend about my idea for a novel featuring a soccer-mom vampire slayer, who would slay vampires with a leg broken off of one of her kitchen chairs in-between baking cookies for the PTA meeting and driving her kids to extracurricular activities. She laughed and said, "That would be Buffy." So I went home and watched all seven seasons of BtVS plus three-and-a-half seasons of Angel in about four weeks. Then I made my mom re-watch them with me. And now I have eight nine eight BtVS fanfic WIPs and a constant craving for Spuffy fanfiction.

Anyway. I'm twenty-eight; my favourite BtVS character is Spike, my second favourite is Buffy, and my third favourite is Buffybot, and I have a soft spot for Harmony a mile wide; I shipped Bangel initially and without much fervour but then the last ten seconds of Out Of My Mind happened and I saw the light (metaphorically speaking); I'm a cat person; when I'm not frantically devouring fanfiction, re-watching episodes, and coming up with yet another idea for a BtVS fanfic I draw webcomics and do other art-y things. Nice to meet you.

This is hilarious. And also concerning. I'm half with Spike here on the question of whether Buffy has completely lost her mind.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 2: Chapter 2 on September 11, 2017

Okay, "his own personal little head-kicker" was hilarious. I like the way you have Spike think of Buffy - it's this interesting combination of bitterness and rage and then, a little further into the chapter, that tiny bit of affection or protectiveness.

If I want to fall over backwards in order to avoid your lips, I totally will.

Haha! Nice attempt to save face there, Buffy. Their back-and-forth snarking is very amusing.

They both fell to silence, the awkwardness of lying naked in bed next to your long-recognised mortal enemy suddenly taking both of them some time to deal with.

That does sound pretty awkward. I liked how you had them talk after, though - they were straightforward and that's interesting. Maybe trusting each other with their bodies is leading to different kinds of trust?

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 5: Chapter 5 on September 11, 2017

Aw, poor Willow. Well, maybe she'll think twice before using highly dangerous magic to shortcut through emotional problems again.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 6: Chapter 6 on September 11, 2017

Oh, poor Buffy. This is all too much for her to handle. But I feel sorry for Spike too. It seems like he's falling for her pretty hard and from his point of view, because she hasn't confided what she's feeling about him to him, she doesn't care at all.

...Now that was sweet. Remembering what Buffy was freaking out about and giving her something to keep her safe from spells....

And I love that he got the thing and sent it to her instead of taking it himself and then promptly decided to go back to her after all. That's William "I had a plan, but I got so bored" the Bloody for you.

Summary: Post Chosen. When time refuses to heal her broken heart, a desperate Buffy asks Willow to lend a magical hand. But when she gets her wish, Buffy is forced to realize that there is truly something worse than losing the one you love.

Interesting look inside Spike's head at a pivotal moment of his existence. I liked this phrase:

He walked on a thread of dreams, of destiny, and could feel his connection already to something big.

The first part especially gives me a feeling of floating. It's cool.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 2: Chapter 1 on September 10, 2017

It's so nice to read a story where Buffy gets support and love from her friends when she's grieving. Even if it means Willow's about to try to do something super dangerous!

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 3: Chapter 2 on September 11, 2017

Well ... this isn't good! What has Willow done now?

Buffy was convinced he could feel the stirrings of hysterical spell searching all the way over in England and was determined to act peppy and push him off the scent. What she so did not need right now was Giles and his paranoia where Spike was concerned.

This is hilarious. Speaking of paranoia, Buffy, you think Giles can smell shenanigans across most of Europe? Haha!

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 4: Chapter 3 on September 11, 2017 Liked

Oh. Ohhhhhhhhh. That's why the prologue showed us Spike right after killing his first Slayer. I wondered! We got to see inside his head so we'd know what kind of mindset the Spike Willow brought back has.

I love this development! It's all kinds of tragic and dramatic and I love that kind of thing. I mean, poor Buffy, thinking she's going to get Spike back and getting someone who doesn't even know her instead (and who is REALLY MEAN). But I love it.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 5: Chapter 4 on September 11, 2017

The dynamic between Boxer Rebellion Spike and Buffy here is just fantastic. He's fascinated in his freaky violent vampire way, she's hating him because he's not her Spike and because she can't completely keep from thinking of him as her Spike.

And so Giles is going to call in the real (current?) Spike ... this should be interesting!

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 6: Chapter 5 on September 11, 2017

Oh for Pete's sake, Giles, JUST TELL SPIKE WHAT'S GOING ON.

...Or don't, 'cause then it'll be funnier when be meets himself if he doesn't know he's there beforehand.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 7: Chapter 6 on September 11, 2017

When she finally spoke, he knew that the same memories were running through her head. The same issues needing to be resolved.

I liked this - them being in sync, finally, after years of having their feelings not match up. They finally get their happily ever after.

Summary: In which we have a very different Spike, who for once has a plan and is sticking to it. Who appears just when The Three attack Buffy and the fic spins off from there in a very different direction.

This is interesting! I wonder what Spike's beef with the Council is? And where Drusilla's gone off to while he teams up with Buffy? Can't imagine she'd be very happy if she knew what he was up to.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 2: Chapter 2 on September 10, 2017

...Oh. That's where Drusilla is. No wonder Spike's wanting to get back at the Council.

I kinda like this idea, the two of them teaming up together. It's open-ended but I don't mind because you tied up the important things - Willow, Xander, Joyce (poor Joyce, I'm so upset that Darla killed her) - earlier in the story. I get a feeling that everything will work out okay.

Wow, grumpy much, Buffy? The resulting snarking between her and Spike is great fun to read, though.

And Spike's getting all philosophical! Well I guess if he can't do normal vampire things like murder people and start apocalypses he might as well have a hobby, right?

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 2: Chapter 2 on August 06, 2017

“When I get this problem sorted I'm going to drain you until you shrivel like a raisin.”

Aww, what a sweet-talker. Not.

The way you wrote them in this chapter makes me think of people circling each other before a fight - there's the tension, the way Buffy keeps coming back around to "I'm gonna make you dusty" and Spike keeps following it up with "No, you're not". It's interesting.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 3: Chapter 3 on August 06, 2017

I guess Parker's good for something, after all - turning Spike and Buffy's verbal circling into something else.

It makes sense, with their characters, for Spike to be the first one to deviate from his official persona (as a vampire), and for Buffy to be the one to actually make a move. I like how you wrote that.

Catryona Reviewed Chapter 4: Chapter 4 on August 06, 2017 Liked

This makes me wonder ... is it possible to fit this story into canon? Spike says it's smoke and mirrors, and once they leave it'll never have happened, but would it really be like that, or would it change the way they thought of each other even more than Willow's spells did?

Anyway this fic was really thought-provoking. It was kind of slow in the beginning, but not necessarily in a bad way ... the pacing worked, I think, with the way the story was slowly making its way to this conclusion.

You write an EXCELLENT Harmony, her lines were just perfect here.

I liked that, after the reunion, you had Spike and Buffy bantering and teasing each other even though emotions were still running high. It seemed right, and also it was pretty funny.

"No! Went by your place, and Andrew told us. But Angel was spying." Far be it for him to miss an opportunity to paint his grandsire in a bad light

This was the first of many many lines in this fic that made me snicker. Like Nibblet at target practice was also hilarious, especially since it's a callback to Dawn's mishaps with crossbows. I also found Angel way too amusing with his "I knew it! You're fired!" attitude - it's completely accurate to his character and so, so funny. (Reminds me of him going "Aha!" at Buffy in Chosen.)

This story was really fun to read. Thank you for sharing your work!

Oh, poor Buffy....

So I don't read a lot of all-human AUs but I heard somewhere that this one was good and bookmarked it for later, and then it showed up as a featured story! (Congratulations on that, by the way.) So I thought I'd go ahead and read it now. Looks interesting so far!

Spike's pretty deeply affected by his involvement in Buffy's case, isn't he?

So no one believes Buffy about the other girl ... man, that's rough.

Ha, I love Buffy cleaning the place - it's a nice callback to her behaviour after Joyce's death in canon.

...Oh. They already caught the guy? Somehow I didn't pick that up before. Suddenly it makes a lot more sense that people wouldn't believe her when she said there was someone else - I mean, if they already caught her kidnapper and didn't get anything out of him on top of there being no evidence to support her story ... this is looking kind of bad for the other girl right now. If she exists. I want Buffy to be right, but I don't want her to have to find the body of this girl if she was hidden somewhere else and never found, you know?
