Summary: (This story takes place after the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 7. It is unrelated to what happens in the comic books and Angel.)
Buffy and friends have moved on from Sunnydale and are living in San Diego three years later. They continue to fight the powers of evil. However, Buffy is beginning to feel lonely and isolated. One day, she receives word from Angel that Spike has shown up in Los Angeles. Stunned that he is alive, she goes to him immediately and begins to care for him. However, the price of Spike's sudden resurrection may be too tough to bear. As he is faced with multiple tests to prove he deserves his soul and his new chance at life, the whole gang undergoes many trials and changes. Will Spike prove worthy of his life? Who else will show up along the way? Will Buffy and Spike end up together, when all is said and done? [MOSTLY BUFFY POV]

Thank you guys so much for your reviews! I've really been taking them to heart. I know Buffy hasn't had much of a reaction to Spike's return, so I wanted this chapter to reflect more of their dynamic and her complicated feelings about him coming back so suddenly. Hopefully this clarifies and gives some insight into that. Also, I think I've said this, but this story is also on Episode. That format kind of forces the story along more quickly, and in that story I definitely had to rush her emotional reaction, and in this story I really wanted it to feel more "realistic" and build up more. Maybe I'm taking it too slow, and for that I'm sorry! All I can say is that she definitely feels more than she shows, and that will become evident.

Please bear with me! It's my first Spuffy fanfiction in a longer narrative format. I'm really enjoying writing it for you all and I hope you continue to enjoy it as things start to pick up! Trust me, it gets wild!
