The Bangel and Sprusilla chapters are just a necessary evil. I promise there will be a Spuffy ending!
This chapter is partly my own lament for Drusilla. I really loved her as a character and wished we had a bit more resolution to her story in canon.
The poem Spike reads to her is Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnet 27. From reviews of the first two chapters, I know some readers are anxious to hear Spike's own annotations. I promise they will come, but there was no way to squeeze them into this chapter.
Some oblique references to lines from Fool for Love. Beta'd by Sunnydalesis.
Sorry for the delay in updating. RL got a bit busy this week. Some lines have been taken from "Innocence." The Browning poem Spike reads is Sonnet 30.
Beta'd by Sunnydalesis.
Once again, I apologize for taking a longer time. This was a really complicated chapter to write! Some dialogue taken from "Helpless" and "Enemies." Beta'd by Sunnydalesis.
I apologize that it's been so long since my last update. I would blame the end of my summer class, but the truth is that the poem for this chapter took a lot longer to write than I had anticipated. Hope you guys like it!
Ordinarily, I would like to keep my chapters fairly even in length, but this one was necessarily longer. It also contains two perspectives, which is unusual for me. My beta, Sunnydalesis, also told me to reassure everyone that we are preparing the torture chamber for Angel's punishment!
So, the book is sort of pushed to the background for much of this chapter. Unlike my other chapters, it covers a really long timeframe. But it's sort of necessary because there are a lot of in-canon changes for Buffy and the Scoobies during Season Five that aren't easily skipped. Plus, Dawn is going to be a constant presence in this story going forward.
Thanks to Sunnydalesis for her beta work and to Javajunkie247 for my wonderful banner!
Sorry for the late post! Beta'd by Sunndalesis. Banner by Javajunkie247.
My apologies in advance for entering painful Season Six waters. Will you stick with me if I promise there will be sweetness and smiles in the end?
Also, thank you to everyone who offered information on Victorian writing styles in the reviews from my last chapter. It seems like the general consensus is that William Pratt would have learned copperplate, which was created in the 1600s and apparently was still being taught midway through the twentieth century. I must say, I'm a bit impressed by the longevity of the style, especially considering those particular centuries saw the greatest rise in general literacy.
Special thanks to my beta Sunnydalesis and to Javajunkie247 for the beautiful banner.
I've been instructed to warn readers that this chapter may require chocolate and ice cream. I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry.
Some dialogue taken from Fool for Love. Thank you to my beta Sunnydalesis and to Javajunkie247 for the pretty, pretty banner.
First of all, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who reviewed the last chapter. I was pretty nervous about posting it, partly because of the subject matter and partly because of the poetry, but everyone here was just incredibly positive and supportive and I just wanted to let all of you know how humbled and appreciative I am to receive such wonderful feedback! You guys are absolutely fantastic!
That said, I should probably also mention that I'm almost as nervous about this chapter. I realize that there are as many interpretations of what actually happened in Seeing Red as there are fans who were upset by it, and I myself have more thoughts on the matter than I could possibly address in a single chapter. So please bear in mind as you read that Buffy's reflections are not meant to be comprehensive, and if they seem insufficient, you're probably right.
Some lines taken from Seeing Red.
A heartfelt thank you to my beta, Sunnydalesis, and to Javajunkie247 for the banner.
Sorry for the delayed post. School has started back up, so RL is competing for my time a bit. I just wanted to say thanks again for all the wonderful feedback from reviewers of the last couple of chapters. This story has grown beyond all my expectations, and it feels really nice to have other people enjoying it as well.
Some oblique refrerences to lines from Fool for Love and a chunk of dialogue taken from Deep Down in ATS:4.
Special thanks to Javajunkie247 for my banner, and lots of love and hugs for all the feedback, editing and idea-bouncing from both Sunnydalesis and flootzavut!
Once again, I apologize for the delayed update. School, you know?
Just a note going forward: While this story has followed canon pretty closely so far and will continue to do so until the last few chapters, because the events of the last few chapters, it will be just a teensy bit looser in sticking to canon. I'll try to highlight any major changes in the story itself, so hopefully that won't be too confusing.
Misericordia is a Latin word meaning mercy or compassion. It's one of my favorite Latin words. (Is it weird to have favorite words from other languages?)
Thank you so much to Sunnydalesis and flootzavut for all their wonderful beta work, and to javajunkie247 for the beautiful banner.
Yet again I must apologize for delays. I'm leaving for a conference in a couple of hours, and prepping for it has sort of screwed around with my week a bit. Thank you all for your patience! (Just FYI in case anyone's curious, my current projected plan for this story has about four more chapters after this one.)
A chunk of dialogue taken from School Hard.
Thank you so much to Sunnydalesis and flootzavut for their beta work and to javajunkie247 for her pretty banner!
Sorry it's been two weeks since the last chapter. I kind of hit a mid-semester crunch-time on grading stuff. Some chunks of dialogue in this chapter are taken from Chosen and Becoming, Part 2. There's also a single line taken from Dante's Divine Comedy.
Thank you so much to Sunnydalesis and flootzavut for all their patient editing and idea bouncing, and to javajunkie for the beautiful banner!
Just a note on the timeline. Even though this scene is taken from Destiny, it's meant to be less forty-eight hours after my last one, which is sort of an AU Hellbound, so keep in mind that it is taking place much earlier than it did in canon. I imagine that Eve and Lindsey, as soon as they saw Spike was corporeal again, would move up their plans and start with the fake cup much earlier. It seemed ambiguous to me whether the universe being thrown off-balance was something extra they added or a real effect of Spike being corporeal, but for the purposes of this chapter, I've gone with the latter interpretation.
Considerable dialogue taken from Destiny.
Thanks once again to Sunnydalesis and flootzavut for editing my chapters and to javajunke247 for the banner!
So I'm setting a personal goal for myself that one day I will write a story and update it in a timely manner. Sorry, everyone!
Once again, thank you so much to javajunkie247 for the banner and to Sunnydalesis and flootzavut for all their feedback and editing. You guys are awesome!
Well, I've finally reached the last chapter and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the great feedback. As I've mentioned before, this is my first time writing a multi-chapter fanfic, and I'm just so thrilled to have found such a wonderful, supportive community.
I also wanted say special thanks again to javajunkie247 for creating such a beautiful banner for this story, and to Sunnydalesis and flootzavut for all the editing, idea-bouncing, and encouragement. You guys are the best!
This chapter plays fast and loose with the timeline of AtS:5, mostly for seasonal purposes. The first two poems are Cat by JRR Tolkien and Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. The last is a Spuffy special.
