Summary: The Codex read that if the Slayer went to face the Master that she would die. Nothing ever said that the Master would be the cause. Death is the starting point for this tale of divergent destiny and godly gifts. Although the tale begins at the end of Season One, it scuttles sideways and provides a divergent Season Two.

This is Canon Divergent and is my take on a challenge proposed by Puppet and termed the Worst of Humanity. If you wish to read the challenge, you can find it in the challenge section. Although the warnings are present, I just want to remind readers that this story starts with a season 2 William the Bloody.  He is not a chipped Spike.  He is not a Spike in love with the slayer.  He is the Spike in love with unlife and in love with Drusilla.  Angel said that "things change" and Spike insisted "not us, not demons".  We all know this isn't true and especially know it isn't the case with Spike.  Please be patient while he grows in this alternative reality. In Reptile Boy, I had a minor issue with Angel entering the Delta Zeta Kappa house without a formal invitation but that Spike later needed Willow to invite him into their dorm room.  That seemed like an error in my mind.  The one wiki tried to rationalize that the fraternity was a temporary home so that made it an open place.  A dormitory is a lot less of a home space than a fraternity house.  Your dorm room changes year to year while the fraternity house remains the home to the brothers for years.  Heck, my dad's fraternity still has the same house from when he went to school in the sixties.  Likewise, if you counter and say that the dorm room was safe because they slept there and Angel was in a common area of the house, then why can't other vamps just walk into Buffy's home.  Any home with more than one occupant would have common areas and private areas.  Wouldn't those common areas become free range for hungry vamps?  I can almost allow that the fraternity brother issuing the invite to the robed Xander to get inside could be extended to cover the vamp but it still isn't a specific invitation to Angel.  Anyway, this chapter allows me to correct what I see as a continuity wrong *grin*.  I hope that you enjoy it.
