This story is different and thought provoking in a good way. I like how, in the initial chapters we, as readers who otherwise might have an omniscient view, understand only partially what’s happening. This lets us live something similar to the confusion that the characters experience as they are trying to figure out the discrepant information they have. It’s all understandable and well told; simply told with pieces missing or easily misconstrued. It’s such a neat approach.
Beyond that, I liked the way this took Buffy through a few phases of successive rediscovery. First in the context of a self reinforcing but false and almost rule based narrative, then as that woman situated with people who reflected back expectations and memories of the different Buffy they knew but she didn’t, and finally as the self-aware Buffy who had to assimilate all that had come before. As I write this, I’m struck yet again how masterfully this all was written given how it all flowed so naturally. And how invested I was in the story and characters as I read.[Report This]
I really enjoyed this story! Thank you for sharing it with us. The way Buffy was the same and different was so well written. I also like the pace that the mysteries were revealed. I do like figuring them out before we are told but not too soon before and your clues were just perfect.[Report This]
Just finished reading the whole thing. Loved it. Excellent characterization for everyone. I did enjoy her essentially going on all "Winter Soldier" at first. Even if there was no Captain America to help regain get memories, lol. Although technically I suppose that was a bit of a group effort that required laser removal than just slowly gaining all the memories back. But still! I loved this plot! Thank you for writing and sharing it.
I really enjoyed the fact Buffy wasn't getting better right away and had to slowly figure things out for herself and what she wanted. And the fact there was never any improvement on her memories was really interesting aspect. Loved the different POVs for each chapter, was great to see different perspectives on everything. The reunion between Buffy and Spike was perfect for this story. It's emotionally hard but very very real. But what I really enjoyed about this story was how Buffy started a fairly normal life (with added vampire slaying), and decided to go to college but still has no idea what to do with herself. Even after getting get memories back, she kept that and graduated. It's not stated explicitly but throughout the story she's not needed for being the Slayer (exception being the battle in Los Angeles aside) because there are other slayers, and that's just what she deserves, to have that normal life even if it includes the occasional late night patrol. So I really enjoyed her getting a slice of normalcy in her life. It's so very hopeful at the end.[Report This]
I just started reading this story, and I had to stop to comment on the Andrew chapter. It's fantastic and I loved all the nerdy references. Loved that his payment was a mint in package Han Solo that whole scene was fantastic.
But what really made me stop to comment was Andrew imagining Buffy returning all "Winter Soldier style" and then questioning who would be her Captain America to pull her out of it. I did not know I needed or wanted that plot/story in my life, but I do now. I haven't finished this story yet, so I'm kind of hoping that's where it's going. However I'm kind of assuming thats not where this is going since those words may not have been meant to be taken as foreshadowing since it was just Andrew's inner rambly, nerdy tinted thoughts. But maybe it is! I'll just have to see what happens as I keep reading!
Regardless of how it turns out. I'm looking forward to finishing this story, and you've done an awesome job. I'm really enjoying it.[Report This]
Absolutely great reading your story again - wonderful treatment on all the characters and the events from the series. Lindsey was a difficult character to feel much sympathy for but he was true to his character in the series and he did eventually do the right thing with his self-sacrifice. All in All a wonderful post Sunnydale story -[Report This]
You certainly know how to depict Dawn in her most nasty cruel mode - even if it comes from a place of emotional self-defense. Great job with Spike and the heart breaking reunion - after Dawn's ice cold cruel rejection he has to be feeling like his life has come down to a complete failure.[Report This]
Poor Spike.. not sure about this ending.. Poor Spike. I am hoping he found happiness somewhere and he deserves it. They ignored him since he got no used for them anymore since the ice queen is back. Wow, I couldn't believe I actually read through several chapters in a row. I will read your Gem story later.. Thanks.
The story isn't over yet...
Too much angst and I am scanning through the story. Good writing, but too much for me to handle right now lol. Poor Spike.. Buffy is gone as good.
Ah, well, I do warn for angst for a reason. :)
Beautiful end to a very interesting fic! I loved happy endings and I am glad that thi one had such an ending! Great job! and again thank you for sharing this fic!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed. :) And thank you for all the reviews along the way!!!
Nice! I loved sensitive Xander. And I loved the optimism you placed in him! You're Xander is so grown up and I just loe him! Two more chapters to go and my heart is with the pounding becaue I am excited to e how you plan to end this fic! Gonna read th nxt one now! to find out!
Xander (along with so many of the other men in BtVS) often gets a bad rap in Spuffy fanfic, which I find disappointing. If you have to turn other characters into evil parodies of themselves to make your favorite look like the hero, that doesn't say much for your favorite. Anyhow, I'm glad you like this Xander. :) Thanks!
Did the bad ones had to be the first thing to return? Man, this chapter was so getting good. But I shall endure because I really am curious to see what happens next! And I am curious to know why Buffy got that Tattoo un the first place.. hehehe
Heh, as you've figured out, I never did answer that question. Probably the Bangel fans would like the answer far more than the Spuffy fans. :) Thanks!
Not really sorry he died. But at least it wasn't a stupid and pathetic death so, hurray for Lindsey! Anyway, gonna read the next one now! So I'd find out what happens next! Haha
Aw, poor Lindsey. Before this story, I was indifferent to him, but now I love the poor, sad guy after spending some time in his head. :) Thank you!
Me-sah Like-y the whole chapter! You-sah awesome, yah?!
Well, enough with the Jah Jah Binx talk. I teally enjoyed this chapter. I am happy they are getting closer to unraveling the secrets of these monks and that they seem to have the answer to Buffy's memory lost. But what I enjoyed most was Dawn's bonding moments with Buffy and Spike! I loved it a lot! Off to read the next one now! So see ya!
Aw, thank you!! :D
Happy dance! Finally a Spuffy moment! I thought it would never happen but yehey! It did! So yeah, happy! So glad!
Heh, the warning at the beginning that this was mostly a gen fic was not an idle one. But we're getting there. :) Thanks!
Got teary eyed in this chapter so congrats on that! I am so happy that Buffy is making an effort to get close to Dawn and mend the fences with Spike. It is really interesting and I like it! Story is going good now that it has moved towards where Buffy slowly gets her memories. Excited to see what happens and so I shall go and read the next one!
Buffy running from Dawn was the most unlike her of all. It's good to see finding herself again. :) Thanks!
