Behind Bars (or something a bit more clever) by Laurence Quill +12

Characters: Buffy
Summary:

We are all aware that the Sunnydale Police Department is rather incompetent when it comes to the Supernatural. However, when they get a call about a drunk Billy Idol wanna-be vandalizing some bars and shops downtown, they find that apprehending the menace surprisingly easy. When taken to the station, it is not a surprise that their prisoner has blacked out in the back of the car, but it does come to some alarm that the punk isn't breathing. Panic ensues when "the body" flails about in a rage and it's face briefly flashes into that of a monster before passing out again when the officers attempt resuscitation. Bewildered, the officers decide to throw the punk in a holding cell until the head detectives come in to deal with him in the morn.

Get as much humor as you can into every scene. Witty banter, tantrum throwing, and childishname calling is a must.

Prompts for story plots:

Short story:

-Spike (chipped and therefore unable to fight his way out) is taken in as a suspect for several murders. However, due to his undead status, the police are not sure what to do with him. Though the "interrogation" banter could be quite hilarious until Giles or Buffy is called to bail him out.

Longer Story:

-Interrogation happens, Spike has no form of ID and he is threatened with being "deported." The Undead issue is discovered. Giles is called. Giles and Buffy negotiate a deal with Spike and then with the police. Buffy becomes Spike's deputy "parole" officer and Spike is forced to go through "reform" counseling to learn how to be a productive member of society/under a vow to help keep the streets clear of more monsters. Spike is horrified and they strap him with an anklet (which Willow enforces) when he tries to make a run for it. Xander takes the opportunity to make jokes about dogs and their leashes.

Rest of the story is Buffy and Spike doing everything possible to annoy, tease, prank, and one up each other until the sexual tension is to much and they destroy a building during their "sparing" session. Giles is called in again to the station only to see his Slayer and Vampire ward both arrested this time. Completely fed up with the both of them and the month they have put him through, Giles gets his revenge by sending Buffy into a joint "reform" counseling with Spike as well. Their screams of protest are music to his ears as he leaves the building.

Have fun with idea that both a Master Vampire and a rather willful Slayer are unable to escape authority figures and have to deal with consequences of their rather destructive actions. Feel free to create your own characters for the Officer/handler in charge of the "Bloody Billy" (Spike's kicks up quite a fuss at the name) case and the unflappable councilor assigned to the two supernatural beings.

Summary: Spike finds himself on the wrong side of the law, and Buffy ends up managing his rehabilitation. Unfortunately for both of them, the law just keeps on winning.

Challenge response: “Behind Bars” by Laurence Quill, with input from the Shoutbox. Y’all are evil.

Goes AU after Something Blue. Gleefully ignores the rest of Season 4 canon, except to score cheap laughs. Warnings for gratuitous bad language, shameless bad jokes, and one bad, bad vampire. Smuttier than planned.

Spotify playlist, because I put in lots of obscure song references: Prisoners of Love, Blue Skies Above
